The Black Report suggests that health inequalities have been growing more so since the establishment of the National Health Service in 1948. Black also suggested that these inequalities were due to factors such as education, income, housing, diet, employment and the working conditions of individuals, which is similar to what Marmot implies within the Marmot Review however the review was written with six objectives: To provide all children, young people and adults with the resources and help to maximise their capabilities and for them to have control over their own lives, to create employment and suitable work for everyone, ensure that everyone has a healthy standard of living, to create equality within communities and social classes and to strengthen the impact of illness prevention. The Black Report was written to actually combat these inequalities by looking directly at the inequalities that still exist despite the National Health Service being in place, the differences in social classes and the use of medical services, infant mortality rates within social classes and also life expectancy. Black found that there was explanations for these health inequalities. The…

Throughout this assignment I aim to carry out a health need assessment on the borough of Brent. In this health needs assessment I will identify and discuss two key factors that influence the health and well-being of the local population of Brent. I will also discuss government policy that addresses the key factors and how the government have decided to better the community with these policies. I have chosen to look into ethnicity and overcrowding as my 2 key factors and discuss how these affect the health of the population of Brent. I will also investigate whether there is a correlation between ethnicity and overcrowding in the likelihood of contracting tuberculosis. While discussing these I will include how this policy or legislation helps to promote the health and well-being in Brent. I will then describe the role of the nurse, other health care professionals and other agencies in promoting health to address the identified health needs of the population of Brent and discuss the importance of effective inter-professional and inter-agency working in promoting health and well-being of this population. It will conclude by summarising the main issues addressed within the content.…
Public health is the measures taken by the government to prevent ill health and disease. The government monitor health so that they can develop different programmes and legislation to improve the health and well being of the people in the country. They do this by attempting to solve inequalities, so that all people not matter what are able to live a healthy life. There are eight policies to improve today's public health, these are; planning for health emergencies (this is making sure that health services are prepared for emergencies such as accidents, outbreaks of disease and terrorist attacks), helping more people to survive cancer (by attempting to reduce the cancer death rate by 5000), reducing smoking (by reducing smoking rates - 18.5% for adults, 12% for 15 year olds, and 11% for pregnant women), giving all children a healthy start in life (by improving maternity care and introducing the Healthy Child Programme, which is available to all families), reducing obesity and improving diet (by introducing the Change for Life programme, and ensuring that food packaging has clear nutritional information), reducing harmful drinking (again by introducing the Change for Life programme, and by providing £448 million to improve the lives of the 120,000 most troubled families), reducing drugs misuse and dependence (by providing support and information on drugs (I.e. FRANK), and supporting children in there first five years of their lives, to prevent drug use further on in their lives), and Creating a lasting legacy from the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games (by promoting sports and healthy living). Identifying health needs of the population – The health needs of the population are determined by the incidence of disease and trends identified. Nationally collated can identify health trends in the entire country. Statistics can be used to determine how health can be improved or how areas of concern can be highlighted and effects of ill health reduced or prevented. A responsibility of health professionals is to report incidences of specific diseases and illnesses so the information can be centrally collated and acted on. Factors such as age, genetics, environment, lifestyle, education and take up of preventive measures for example immunisation may relate to patterns of illness and disease. The needs of the public are governed by social, financial and economic factors as well.…

For this criterion I will discuss the current and also the future patterns in the UK.I will also discuss who is going to be affected by the new changes and will provide statistics to support my answer which is also going to discuss the inequalities of health. There are many factors which affect the health of the public who are in the United Kingdom. However the UK has become a better place to live in compared to living here in the 19 or 2oth century. The main disadvantage is always due to social class. This is because if a person is in a higher class they are able to have the best things and highest quality of care in order to make sure they have the best health. However if someone is from a lower social class they are more likely to spend wisely and think about what they are spending their money and how they are spending money. Usually people in lower class donât always live in the best areas and they live in overcrowded, polluted areas which can also affect their…

Public health (PH) is an issue continually on the UK Government agenda and one in which it is anticipated that all health professionals will participate in (Nuttall, 2008). PH focuses on the health and well-being of a society and is the most effective means of protecting and improving it. It addresses the root causes of illness and disease, including the interacting social environmental, biological, and psychological dimensions, as well as the provision of effective health services. PH relies on evidence, judgement and skills and promotes the participation of the populations who are themselves the subject of policy and action (United Kingdom Public Health Association (UKPHA), 2008).…

Since greater care is being given to the young people, improvements are already occurring. The level of education that teenagers receive is much higher than that of their parents, and the expectation that young people should obtain at least some secondary schooling is growing. This will help teenagers to be aware of what it comes with a pregnancy, so they can decide better and plan ahead.…
The review of health and social care has identified a renewed focus on public health and social wellbeing to tackle these health inequalities and underpin a refocusing of care provision away from acute planning and towards a major emphasis on caring for people in their own homes and communities which is implemented on the broad perspective of public health. Poverty and low living standards is an important consideration towards bridging the gap on health…
