Puppets In College
I believe in staying true to yourself and making choices for yourself, because in the end, everyone is alone in their own minds, and they will be left alone with the consequences of their choices. Regret is something that will eat away at you slowly and destroy you eventually. If people let others define their life, or make their decisions for them, then they are just a puppet. But who’s to say that we all are not puppets in a way in society.
There are roles everyone needs to fill, and there becomes an expected way society expects people to fill those roles. But that is aside from the point I am trying to make here.
If you let someone else control your life and not make any decisions for yourself, then when the day comes that you are expected

Her name was Brandi. She was mainly more my friend’s friend than mine. Brandi and I got along well enough, but were not close. She cornered me and dragged me to one of the slides where you do not get to use a floatie thing. At this time, I barely even knew how to swim, and another one of my friends did give me some tips and taught me to doggy paddle, but that was all I knew and my newly learned swimming skill was very weak. It wasn't much. Plus they literally taught me this not long before I was dragged outdoors by Brandi. Brandi went down the slide first, but she said if I didn’t do it, she’d come back up and force me to go down. I really did not want to go down the slide, but I did end up going down the slide, although looking back now there was several other options I could have done, but when I got to the bottom I went underwater, and could not make my way back to the surface. It seemed like forever, but eventually she grabbed me and dragged me out of the water. It was a good thing she did, because otherwise I most likely would have drowned. Therefore now, I try not to let people make decisions for me, and stay true to myself because in some cases it could literally be life or

“If you don’t speak up, people will take advantage of you”(Simon 43). This quote is the best definition of what life really is. In life if you do not speak for yourself, people will push you around and take advantage of you. If you want something done right in this world, you have to do it yourself. Depending on others is what others want, but that dependency will take over your life and it will become something that is not yours anymore.…

With many different choices that we can take, we realize that some of the choices have effects on our lives throughout time. The downside of free will is the very choices we make. Whether it be something as saying no to an invitation to go on a date with a really sweet guy or girl or saying yes to smoking that first joint of marijuana. That one time that the straight A student…

I am in agreeance with the barber in the sense that, in my opinion, everyone does have a role in society based upon the job that they choose. This is because I think that our current society would not be able to function efficiently if people did not have any sort of specific role within it. For example, if no one were to work in a sanitation job, the world would become carpeted in the garbage we create. However, one can exceed their role, in the sense that they can participate in other activities and…

Shocking revelations and plot twists in a story are needed to keep the audience from boredom. In most cases, subtle hints or foreshadowing are thrown here and there, serving as portents of such surprises. However, the audience rarely pays attention to these little details; they tend to focus on the big picture rather than specifics. This makes the effects of the revelations and surprises appear greater than they would otherwise have been. Only upon a closer analysis of the story do these foreshadows become evident.…

If one cannot rely on himself, then others cannot rely on him. At some time in one’s life there will be someone who depends on them for something. If this person doesn’t have their self-figured out then how will they figure out how to take care of that person’s needs? You are the only one that can take control of your life and to rely on someone else to do it for you is hurting yourself and those around you. Personal responsibility is a necessity in life and also helps the community as a whole become more efficient.…

People decide to do everything, they choose which path to take, and choose the consequences or rewards associated with their decisions. Surprisingly many do not know “when you have a decision to make, the standard advice is to think everything through and weigh the pros and cons and reason your way to the right choice.” Many people just react without thinking, it is human nature to follow the impulses felt, but no one ever stops to think what bad things may occur from their idiotic choices. Especially in today’s society, every single decision made can lead to a person’s destruction or even death, the free will humans posses is something of use for good but many abuse it and end up hurting their fate more than helping…

The saying goes “If life hands you lemons, make lemonade” in addition to that, I have also heard “If life hands you Lemons, throw them back and do you own thing!” two very different outcomes of the same situation. For most of my life other people’s choices really bothered me. I’ve never been one to think I know more than anyone else, but it’s easy to see when they aren’t making the best choices or using all the options that are available to them. Most people say, “that’s extremely insensitive of you to say that”, or “they can’t control it” but concerning depression for example, yes, they don’t control whether they are depressed or not, but do…
