Their goal is to become the most knowledgeable and skilled practitioner in their respective field. This is my goal as well. I want to be the most effective as well as the most enlightened clinician, I can be. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.” Pursuing clinical knowledge with reckless abandon has pushed me forward in the field of nursing. During this pursuit of information, I have slowly molded myself into a resource for the staff on my unit, thus earning the opportunity to train and pass this knowledge on to other nurses. I am continuing the theme of self-improvement by enrolling in a Graduate School to become an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. Perfection, while impossible to obtain, is a great goal to strive for. Even when perfection is missed, the journey towards excellence bares fruits which leads to a pronounced enhancement of proficiency in addition to skill. I want to use this knowledge to improve the lives of patients, their families, and the clinical staff. This is according to The College Board, a not-for-profit organization formed in 1899 to expand access to higher education. The average amount of debt owed by a typical graduate student in the year 2012 was 57,600 dollars, with over one fourth of all students borrowing more than 100,000 dollars. These figures were attributed to a study conducted by the New American Education Policy Program. Student loan debt is a burden that has been placed upon younger generations that older generations have not had to endure. Large amounts student loan debt delays other life decisions, such as having children, owning a home or even retirement planning. A CBS news report states that eighty two percent of grad school students were working some type of job, with almost fifty percent working full time positions. Working full time hampers a student’s ability to focus on school work while also putting a severe drain on the one resource that is limited for all individuals, time. There are only 24 hours in a day, therefore only so much of that time can be spent studying or working. A scholarship from the Wellstar Foundation would purchase this precious resource for me. It would give me the ability to be more flexible with my work schedule, furthermore it will allow me to allocate more time to pursue my goals as well as dedicating more
