Alice In Quantumland
Introduction In the story, Alice an ordinary girl finds herself into this crazy mixed up world, where everything she knows seems to appear backwards and unordinary. But is it really? Quatumland is supposed to serve as a way to introduce the reader to an easier explanation of what Quantum mechanics is and how it really works. By using people and creatures of different sorts, each character comes with it's own set of scenarios and problems that all relate back to something that has to do with Quantum Mechanics. It is a thoughtful way of putting things into a different perspective. electrons: Alice is absent mindedly watching television when she reaches for a book and falls in with all the dots of the tv flying around her. She discovers that these so called “dots” …show more content…
Alice is walking through this beautiful garden when she notices a girl much like herself except she looks like the negative version. She walks forward and the girl walks the opposite way and before she knows it they collide. Alice is terribly confused once again. She is soon introduced to the “virtual realtor”. She then asks him if he can explain how electrons and other particles move between states. He showed her the “ buildings” where the electrons were living. One of the ohotons shot out at the lowest floor and made the electron shoot all the way to the top. Then, in just a few short seconds the electron from the above floor fell down into the ground floor and this sequence continued. What has happened here is called “ spontanious decay”. This mean sthat even when an electron gets excited by a photon and is ruptured up to the top, it will slowly and always come right back down the way it came. But in this case they are considered virtual photons. They are called Virtual photons as just a theory.(Gilmore pg
