“Land Ho!” A sailor calls from the crow’s nest. I look out toward a now approaching shoreline. We finally made it to the New World. My dear King and Queen, you should sponsor and finance my expedition to the New World because your country will have better trade, Christianity will spread to the natives, and there will be new land for the country to claim. Funding my expedition will be a very smart decision! First, the country will have better trade. Better trade means more wealth and power for the country. The New World is full of goods and valuable resources, like gold, timber and indigo! Other countries will practically beg to trade with us instead of making the trip themselves. This will make the country incredibly wealthy! As well as trading new goods and valuable resources, the expedition could also create new trading routes, trading routes that will be quicker to travel and safer to sail. With control of these new trading routes the country will have more power! The expedition could even lead us to find the Northwest Passage for easier trade with Asia! Second, Christianity will spread to the natives. By spreading Christianity we could help the native people of the New World gain salvation. This will not only save their souls but also please God which will guarantee that you will have a spot in heaven. Sharing the same religion with the natives will give you their support. They will follow your orders and be more likely to believe what you tell them. Their support means more power for you. Third, there will be new land. Colonies could be set up in the New World, therefore expanding the country. They could help to explore deeper into the New World and gain more knowledge of it. The soil there will also be good for agriculture. If we ever go through a famine we could always rely on it to keep us fed. With the new land it will be easier to gain the valuable resources that the New World provides since we will be more familiar with it. In
