1. Locke describes the the state of nature as a law of Nature to govern and reason that no one ought to harm another in his life, health, liberty or possessions. There cannot be any subordination that authorizes one to destroy another. All men may be restrained from invading others' rights. And finally, it's where one man comes by a power over another, but yet no absolute or arbitrary power to use a criminal.
2. Men leave the "state of nature" to form a political society because if everyone is free and rules their own life, then no one is free. A society needs order or else society will just collapse without a dominant power.
3. The definition of contract can be applied to the social contract because one must give up the preservation of themselves to be regulated by laws made by the society. They must also give up their power of punishing to only count as one figure to assist the executive power of the society.
