According to Ms. Ramos, Alcides is running away to his mother house without her permission. Anthony grew up on the Jersey Shore, with both parents in the home Anthony live a normal child life. Anthony mom had other children from a previous marriage, and two of her daughters also was using heroin. As a child, Anthony mother tried to do everything possible to help Anthony grow up and do something productive in his life instead of using drugs. The most alarming trend is the increasing use of illegal drugs, tobacco, and alcohol among youth. Children who use these substances increase the chance of acquiring life-long dependency problems. They also incur greater health risks. Every day, three thousand children begin smoking cigarettes regularly; as a result, a third of these youngsters will have their lives shortened (Policy, 1996).
