First of all, the reading was extra credit. It did not count against his grade at all - only added to it. The 20 points was the maximum of extra credit allowed for students who read major parts. The Kahoot is also extra credit.
The worry is the three assessments (the grades out of 100). Proficiency grading is different from all other forms in the grade book. A student can only receive five possible grades out of 100 on an assessment: 0, 1, 75, 85, and 100. I modified this slightly to show the number of questions he got correct on the test (for example, he received 15/25 on the L1 and he needed at least a 18/25 to get a C). According to the grading scale, it should show a 1/100 because he didn't pass at a C or above, but the 15 is in there for my records so I don't have to keep digging out the tests to find out their real scores on it. …show more content…
The RL3 assessment was a short answer essay test over a short story they read in class.
The problem with this assessment is that he and the student sitting next to him wrote the exact same essay answers (and I don't know which one did the copying--they won't say--so I can't give either of them credit). I have a make-up story for him, but he needs to come in when he is called for
intervention.
We are currently practicing the L1 and L2 grammar assessments in class to get them ready for a re-take, which will take place later this week. He needs to be able to identify complete sentences from run-ons and fragments. He also need to be able to find the incorrectly used punctuation in a sentence using semicolons, colons, dashes, and parentheses. He can prepare by practicing on online quizzes at home if possible.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you need anything else.
