RL3 Assessment
od morning,

First of all, the reading was extra credit. It did not count against his grade at all - only added to it. The 20 points was the maximum of extra credit allowed for students who read major parts. The Kahoot is also extra credit.

The worry is the three assessments (the grades out of 100). Proficiency grading is different from all other forms in the grade book. A student can only receive five possible grades out of 100 on an assessment: 0, 1, 75, 85, and 100. I modified this slightly to show the number of questions he got correct on the test (for example, he received 15/25 on the L1 and he needed at least a 18/25 to get a C). According to the grading scale, it should show a 1/100 because he didn't pass at a C or above, but the 15 is in there for my records so I don't have to keep digging out the tests to find out their real scores on it.

The problem with this assessment is that he and the student sitting next to him wrote the exact same essay answers (and I don't know which one did the copying--they won't say--so I can't give either of them credit). I have a make-up story for him, but he needs to come in when he is called for

He got eight students to take a test. However, seven of the students were called “confederates” because they knew what was going on, like insiders. All eight students were given a test with lines on a piece of paper and were asked to match them up. I attached one of the tests. At first, all eight, including the seven insiders, answered correctly because it is a very easy test. But then the second time some of the seven insiders intentionally gave the wrong answer. And on the third time taking the test, all seven insiders gave the same wrong…

The Maryland School Assessment (MSA) is a test of reading, math, and science achievement. This test provides educators, parents, and the public valuable information about student, school, school system, and state performance. Before the state could hold schools accountable for student’s proficiency on the new state assessment, proficiency had to be defined. Setting proficiency standards for Maryland School Assessment (MSA) involved determining proficient and advanced performance on the tests. The Performance Standard determines where the cut score is for students considered to be performing at the proficient and advanced levels. All other students will be considered to be performing at the basic level. (Maryland Assessment, 2012)…

    Labor in the 1800's

Laborers in the late 1800’s worked in harsh conditions. Many companies and corporations went on strike and even resorted to violence in order to spread their point. These workers mostly worked for low wages, or felt that they weren’t being treated fair. With acts of crime, these laborers felt that they could get there message to the companies, but most of the companies retaliated with hiring national guards to settle the issue or just locking the workers out of the job. The reason that these strikes turned to violent riots started is because the workers were so dependent on their job for money to feed their family’s, they couldn’t outlast the companies in a “waiting” battle because they company owners and executives had enough money to support themselves as it is.…

With the rise in immigrant students comes a rise in students who do not speak English. Schools are facing the need to not only teach these students their regular academics but also a new language. In Guthrie, Oklahoma, there may seem like there would not be as much need for such programs but the fact is that English language learners are also here. ELL students need assistance from the schools they attend in order to master their English skills and be able to become productive citizens when they graduate. Schools have had to come up with procedures to identify ELL students, assess and monitor their learning and proficiency, keep teachers informed, and ensure ELL students access to grade-level content and develop language simultaneously.…

Good assessment is a fundamental part of teaching and learning. Assessment provides feedback to teachers and learners about progress, understanding and achievement. Assessment falls into 3 categories; initial, formative and summative. Initial assessment is completed at the start of the learner's course. Initial assessment provides information needed to decide on the learner's starting point and enables the assessor to ensure the learner is enrolled on the correct course. Initial assessments also work as a benchmark from which learner's progress and achievement can be measured.…
