A main necessity for any living thing is food and water. When a rabbit needs to be fed or watered they can flip its bowls around, run around and thump in its pens, and even chew on the wire to get attention. John Marsden’s and Shaun Tan’s epic picture book, “The Rabbits”, is an allegorical fable about colonisation, told from the perspective of the natives. An unseen narrator describes the coming of ‘rabbits’ in the most minimal detail, an encounter that is at first friendly and curious, but later darkens as it becomes apparent that the visitors are actually invaders. My chosen image (above), embodies the overall style of the book which is deliberately sparse and strange. Both text and image conveys an overall sense of bewilderment and anxiety as native numbat-like creatures witness the environmental devastation under the wheels of a strange new culture, represented by the rabbits.…

Many of the characters in William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” can be called responsible for the lovers’ deaths (including themselves). Ultimately, one of the overriding themes of the story: fate, is the reason for their deaths. Throughout the story, it would be inevitable, it would be their fate that Romeo and Juliet both take their own lives. This is established in the prologue of the play, therefore no matter how the characters act to try and situation around, fate is what causes their death in the end.…

Almost all animals communicate. As author, David Abram, mentions in his text, The Spell of the Sensuous, animals “…communicate with each other, often employing a repertoire of gestures, from “marking” territory with chemical secretions, to the facial expressions of many mammal species, to the hosts of rattles, cries, howls, and growls…” (78). Unlike most animals, the preferred means of communication is language. Language is more than simply a method of communicating information, it holds much more power, and that power is dependent entirely on how we employ it.…
