Throughout the school year Ruby was taught one on one with her teacher because the other teachers thought it was a disgrace to teach an african american child, they read books, did math and crafts. So at the end of the year she was able to take a test that encountered how much she learned over the course of the year and she made the highest of all the students in the school. Bridges didn’t lack much self confidence at all because of her family, they helped her confront racism in a positive way. Her momma once asked her “What happened when Jesus was spit on,yelled at and called dirty names?” He turned away and asked God to forgive them for they know not what they’re doing. Ruby expressed many character traits throughout the movie, and those were the ones that I think stood out the most. In the movie there were many people that Ruby played a very important role in her life. She had many positive supports such as her family. Like when her mother rode to school with her and the guards. Ruby also had negative antagonists whom were the protesters. Such as the lady that yelled at her that they would poison her food to kill her. But through it all Ruby prayed for all regardless if they were a supporter or antagonist. In the movie Ruby was told never to turn back or look at the crowd she was to keep ahead until she got inside, although at towards the end of the movie she stopped and turned around and prayed for the crowd because she forgot to do so when she was on her way to school that morning in the car. All in all Ruby had many people to play different roles in her life. Ruby propelled civil rights movement. She was a peaceful protester. As she walked into school each morning as she was escorted by the guards she never once turned around to yell back at the protesters. Ruby was a role model for all those who faced obstacles. In the movie when Ruby got the chance to sit in class with the white kids and a student told her their mom said he couldn’t talk to her because she was a negro she just smiled and went on about her day. She made people focus on what was important: change. She integrated an all white school which forced them to realize she was going to be there and that there was nothing wrong with a black and white child to attend the same school. These are all ways Ruby advanced the Civil rights Movement. Martin Luther King Jr once stated “Darkness cannot drive out; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” Meaning people with negativity can only be positive if they’re around positivity, and people who have hate in their life need love to love back.
