The idea that racism died along with slavery is incorrect on many levels. Racism isn’t just insinuating violence but antagonizing and looking down on another race. As long as people of color are treated differently based on their heretic background, racism will still exist. Furthermore, as long as this racist ideology still exists, it will continue to “spread” from generation to generation. But through the use of social movements, people have gained nationwide attention to this problem. Movements like Black Lives Matter (BLM) have shed light on police brutality against people of color, wage differences from their white counterparts, and the overall difference in treatment based on their skin color. Racial tensions in the US have boiled over and caused many disputes between people of color and whites. Violence against Black and Muslim Americans has gradually increased after the 2016 Presidential election. Trump imbedded fear into the minds of Americans, which insinuated violence against POC. The younger generation is slowly becoming more politically and socially aware of race problems, which helps with bringing awareness to the problems POC face. Anthropology is the study of human cultures and how they affect their development as a society as well as their beliefs based around their cultures.
