Is the emphasis on a Color-Blind Society an Answer to Racism?
Racism is a topic that has always been controversial for a countless number of years. It has been a serious topic since the beginning of America. Everyone has been a victim of racism at least one time in their life; no matter what race they may be. But what is racism? Racism is a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others. Not only did these people despise one of their races, but they also didn’t even claim the race. This episode is a perfect example as to why I know that emphasis on a color-blind society will never be the answer to racism. Both racism and stereotypes, which is a form of racism, have a way of separating races from one another. Therefore, stereotypes are blocking the demolishment of racism. In my opinion, a “color-blind” society does not even exist, at least not in this day in age. Racism will continue to thrive as long as stereotypes are still alive. Personally, I don’t think there is an answer. Racism is one of the many things that America was built on and it’s all we know. From the beginning, we have separated ourselves by race; It’s like second nature. It’s virtually impossible to change the way an entire society thinks when they as well as their ancestors were raised that way. I know that we have come a long way but racism will always be a part of society. Some people never change, and it’s not their fault because they were raised that way. I don’t find it sad that there is no answer to racism because it’s just one of the things that we all have to deal with in life.
