Rajni Perera 3 Figures

The York University art gallery contains a unique exhibition; Migrating the Margins which “looks to the future of art” (AGYU, 2017) that is curated by Emelie Chhangur and Philip Monk. Around gallery, the viewers can distinguish the unique pieces. Though there are many pieces of artwork that are distinctive, the ones that stand out are; 3 Figures by Rajni Perera and On Larkspurs and Sorrow by Erika DeFreitas. Walking into the room of where the exhibition takes places, the first piece of art that grabs the attention to itself is the 3 Figures by Rajni Perera. By looking at this piece of art there are few elements that are effortlessly identified. Though there are many elements that can be identified, there are a few important ones that need to be touched upon. The colours that are used create a rhythm between the three figures. All three figures have the colour back from their heads to their chest, of light blue, yellow, and orange that creates the warm hues to create a delightful feeling. Then towards the bottom starting from the hips all three figures have a mixture of light purple, dark purple, and black that are cool hues and have a sense of dark mood. The colours used to pull the audience towards the art piece, the different shapes complete the figures. Each figure has a different type of triangular shapes on their heads to emphasize their uniqueness.
