In Ralph Waldo Emerson’s essay “Friendship” he starts off with a poem that is meant to portray the pure and true depth and relation of what friendship is really about. He also goes on in the poem and talks about how, when he sees a friend again after a while his heart is carefree again almost like the world becomes this better place around him. It is crucial for him in the sense that he feels that if he can not keep a conversation like he can in other relations. Having more relations towards one person then another ends up making Emerson feel that there is no joy with all the rest and finds all the other friendships to be quite mean and cowardly. Some people would agree with that statement that he ends up making, considering there are people in the world that think like Emerson. There are people who believe that having an equal level across the board for friendships are important and, they can end up feeling like they are being unreasonable to all the other relations they have.
