Sergeant in the Marine Corps is known as an (E-5) and is a non-commissioned officer which is referred to as the backbone of the Marine Corps. A Sergeant normally serves as the squad leader or the go to person that knows a lot about one's MOS (military occupational specialty) and is in charge of corporals and below. A Sergeant has a great deal of responsibility and leadership in carrying out the mission or objective given. A sergeant will always be one of the most important ranks in all of the Marine Corps because of the level of responsibility is put on them from passing information or word to getting a job done from doing paper work in the office, to out in the field and getting everything handled and flowing
