Although, Sam despised Red Chief he still ended up learning the theme of the story abuse is handled with persistence which, gave Sam the idea of talking to Red Chief. Apparently, both Bill …show more content…
and Sam were having troubling times with Red Chief but, what helped the most was simply asking him a question which was, “would you like to go home,” because of this change of power Red Chief would have to cooperate or he’ll have to go home. Of course saying, the same thing over and over again wouldn’t work on a boy like Red Chief so, they also tried a different plan against Red Chiefs abusive behavior. Another way, he helped Red Chief was by threatening him by saying, “If you don’t behave, ‘I’ll take you straight home. Now, are you going to be good, or not?” In this way, the kid says sorry to Bill and the two shook hands so, the kid didn’t abuse Bill without asking him if he wanted to play a game. To end with, Red Chief was influenced away from abuse with persistence with words.
Despite their differences Bill decided to have a good relationship with Red Chief because of this decision Red Chief caused less mischief and played more games with Bill. In the meantime, Bill built a fairly well relationship with Red Chief from the start when he decided to play indian with Red Chief as he says to Sam “we’re playing indian, we’re making Buffalo Bill’s show look like magic-lantern views of palestine in town hall. Although Bill later on couldn’t take anymore games, (which resulted the kid to forcing violence upon the two) he still held in on his part of the deal to take car of the kid even if it means giving away his own dignity in this way, Bill's relationship and persistence takes a strike against abuse. Following up, Bill also is persistent with his relationship with Red Chief by how he feels when red chief is away for instance, Bill says to Sam “What's he up to now?' says Bill, anxiously. 'You don't think he'll run away, do you, Sam?” In this way, Bill is worried about the kid which means he cares about him.
The final way the two burglars tried to overpower with the kids abusive behavior is the actions they take.
To start with, both Sam and Bill's actions showed the theme of the story abuse is handled by persistence in there own ways and here's how. Sam tried to be the bad guy in the situation by lecturing Red Chief as said, in the story, “I went out and caught that boy and shook him until his freckles rattled.” Apparently this act scared the living tarnation out of Red Chief that he even tried to fix Bill’s bruises. To astonishment, even Bill tried to overpower the kids behavior by playing with him for example, while Sam had to send the letter Bill had to play with the kid as said in the book, Bill gets down on all fours and, a look comes in his eye like a rabbit’s when you catch it in a trap. Weirdly, enough this story is just like the book The Boys In The Boat for instance, the step mom hated Jon just like, Bill who hates Red Chief because both were relied on but, they caused trouble for the family. Even though, Jon helped the family the money still wasn’t enough to feed the family so, the family had to leave him at the farm just like how Bill tried to get rid of Red Chief. In this way, Bill acts loyal to Sam even if it means pretending to be a horse so, the kid doesn't abuse him or run
away.
After all the suffering, with the boys abuse the dad shows another form of abuse by saying “You bring Johnny home and pay me two hundred and fifty dollars in cash, and I agree to take him off your hands.” Bill couldn't take anymore of the boys childish abuse it, was to much to handle so, Bill said, “what is two hundred fifty anyways.” In this way the two gentlemen had to bring the boy back with two hundred fifty dollars or else Sonset would tell the neighbors of the boys missing. For instance, if they didn’t give Red Chief back with $250 then, Sonset would tell the neighbors who would celebrate his disappearance and they would not let him come back ever again. To end with, the two bandits had to build up confidence to deal with childish behavior just like father Sonset who has to deal with the rascal daily.
