In the two stories Raymond’s Run and All American Slurp, the themes in the stories have a big impact on the lives of the main characters. Both of these characters have a goal or accomplishment that they want to complete. Squeaky’s from Raymond’s Run is that she wants to make friends or be liked, meanwhile the Lin girl’s from All American Slurp is that she wants to fit in with the Americans and their culture. I know that once Squeaky realizes that the way you act affects what others think of you she will make many more friends because well, just think about it. You wouldn’t like it if someone was boasting or bragging in your face. As you can see, you probably wouldn’t be a friend of Squeaky’s. If Squeaky realizes that not many people appreciate people bragging or boasting in their face, more people will start to like her. However, I know that when the Lin girl realizes that differences in culture make it hard to fit in she will fit in with more of the Americans because it’s just like Raymond’s Run. If you were to move to a random foreign country for any reason you wouldn’t fit in easily, so this explains why it’s hard for the Lin girl to fit in with the American culture which again is because she is Chinese. Thus, once both of these characters realize the theme in their story they will achieve their goal.
