Marawi, often referred to as Marawi City, is the capital and the biggest city of the province of Lanao Del Sur on the island of Mindanao in the country of Philippines. Maranaos are what they label to the people of Marawi and that they speak the Maranao language. They are named after Lake Lanao, which is called Meranau in the language, upon whose coast Marawi lies. The city is called the Summer Capital of the South because of its higher distance from the ground and cooler climate. Marawi was founded as Dansalan in 1639 by the Spaniards led by Francisco Atienza who came from Iligan and were attempting to triumph over the entire Lake Lanao area. On the other hand, it was deserted later the same year when thousands of Maranao warriors invested …show more content…
But the one with the most interesting story all through the marawi siege is the story of a Private soldier named Dhan Ryan Bayot who showed great courage regardless of the overwhelming presence of the enemies. He gave his coordinates and requested his commander to bomb his location so that the enemies will get hit too. “Just bomb my location, Sir !”. These were the very last words of 24 year old Private First Class Dhan Ryan Bayot when he called his commanding officer before he surrender to death in the hands of the maute-isis group. Bayot’s team consists of 9 soldiers from the 51st Infantry Batallion and was stationed in a detachment in Barangay lilod, Marawi City on the second day of the Marawi siege, May 24. They were send off to the said station for it was upon the request of a town mayor for additional safety measures for as his residence was just above the detachment. Moments later, they were attacked. A survivor said that aside from the shots from both sides of the road, firing of guns also came from the mayor’s residence. it appears that, the mayor’s residence was already overtaken by the terrorists or his bodyguards might have sympathized with the attackers. The soldiers cannot tell, for they were too taken aback that the volley of fire came from every part of the directions. Five of Private soldier Dhan Ryan Bayot’s companions were dead. Three soldiers managed to get away and abandoned the post. It was only later that they found out that the three soldiers were shot, one was killed and the other two was wounded. Now Private Soldier Dhan Ryan Bayot was all alone with not a single scratch, he then radioed his commanding officer for some back up but no one came. A few hours later on, he called again. The commander officer told him that reinforcement attempted twice, but they couldn’t get through as for

While Staff Sergeant Monti was leading a mission aimed at gathering intelligence and directing fire against the enemy, his 16-man patrol was attacked by as many as 50 enemy fighters. On the verge of being overrun, Staff Sergeant Monti quickly directed his men to set up a defensive position behind a rock formation. He then called for indirect fire support, accurately targeting the rounds upon the enemy who had closed to within 50 meters of his position. While still directing fire, Staff Sergeant Monti personally engaged the enemy with his rifle and a grenade, successfully disrupting an attempt to flank his patrol. I witnessed one soldier throw a man into a deep well and throw a grenade in after him. I winced at the sound of the explosion. As much as I wished this nightmare to end, the killings continued on for the rest of the day. When our mission was over, we entered the waiting helicopters and flew back to base. Watching this massacre happen before my eyes…

There were many heroes at the battle of Fox Hill but one Private Hector Cafferata’s story stands above them all. On the first night at Fox Hill, Cafferata found his foxhole surrounded by the enemy as the Chinese passed through the gaps in the American lines during the first night of the attack. “Two enemy riflemen reached the lip of their hole; Cafferata clubbed them with his shovel. One of them dropped a Thompson submachine gun. Cafferata picked it up and emptied it into another approaching squad” (86). He and his foxhole buddy retreated back to a slit trench they had…

There were many brave heroes at the battle of Fox Hill but one Private Hector Cafferata’s story stands above them all. On the first night at Fox Hill, Cafferata found his foxhole surrounded by the enemy as the Chinese passed through the gaps in the American lines during the first night of the attack. Two enemy riflemen reached the edge of their hole and Cafferata clubbed them with his shovel. One of them dropped a Thompson submachine gun. Cafferata picked it up and emptied it into another approaching squad. He and his foxhole buddy retreated back to a trench they had identified earlier, to join two other Marines shoulder to shoulder to shoot upon a wall of enemy that overran the machine gun emplacement next to them. The four Marines in the trench provided supporting cover fire to repel the Chinese assault as the enemy focused on the machine gun emplacements, leaving fire team after fire team dead. The other Marines mowed down the attacking enemy but were still overcome through the sheer number of attacking forces and the inevitably running out of ammo, often taking a few more of the enemy with them in bayonet and hand-to-hand combat.…

“I’m Sgt. Thompson! We need to move up! We are far too vulnerable! Help me find a good location,” he said to me as he handed me an M1 Garand, the standard issue rifle for infantrymen (Laurenceau). We began to scout a possible area of cover further up the beach. I spotted a small group of four men taking cover in a bomb crater in the sand about 150 yards in front of us (Worrld War II).…

There is a positive side in every single action that takes place in people’s lives. O’Brien tries to explain a war story as best as he can but, most believe that to actually know the events that happened and how gory or pleasant each little thing was, one must experience it themselves.…

Elizabeth Bishop’s “The Hanging of the Mouse”, places animals in the roles of humans in reference to an execution. The writer uses animals to replace humans to possibly convey a message or point of view towards the death penalty. In the story, the mouse is being executed for what we believe is some sort of crime. It isn’t clear whether or not the mouse actually committed a crime, but we are led to believe that an act occurred in which caused the mouse to be executed on this particular day.…

The usage of most advanced large-scale bread manufacturing facility that is fully automated and computer controlled, untouched by human hands of Gardenia in their conversion cycle is the most remarkable in their system. As I have personally seen how the machines process all the ingredients to ensure the quality and freshness of their products, I could really say that the company had used well the technology available to give them the best advantage in their industry. I have also seen how their workers ensure quality control by checking any deformed loaf of bread ahead of the process and then putting a sign on it – a pink paper in their case – to notify the person in charge to remove it before the packing stage. I have had this impression that maybe the reason why defective breads were not being removed at an earlier stage of the process is because these breads undergo joint processing with non-defective breads and will later be used for further processing in order to be sold as one of the by-product of the company. I have been informed that one example of the company’s by-product is fish feeds.…

I was amazed to Elizabeth I because even if she belongs to the dangerous world of political intrigue, she’s still stays as she was at first. She surpassed a traumatic actions of his father by killing her stepmothers just because they can’t bear a male heir. Although his father finally have a son, Edward VI, the boy did not live long, dying at the age of sixteen after a six-year reign, I can’t imagine how terrible it was for King Henry VIII because he only need a son and this happened. I was astound by Elizabeth because at a very young age she showed her potentials and showed exceptional intelligence, excelling at her studies well beyond any of the other royal children.…
