Reaction paper to The Count of Monte Cristo movie

As I have watched the film of The Count of Monte Cristo, which was based on the novel written by Alexandre Dumas with the same title, I saw how hatred and vengeance can kill and affect every other’s lives.
At the first part of the movie, Edmund Dantes, the main character of the movie, He is betrayed by his own friend named, Fernand Mondego, because he likes Dantes’ fiancee and he is jealous about Dantes being the captain of their ship. Because of this he faced so much conflict and suffered for a long time in prison because of his traitor friend and unconsciously being the carrier of the dangerous letter of Napoleon Bonaparte. Edmund doesn’t know how to read and write that’s why he wasn’t able to know the content of the letter which was then a plan of rebellion by Bonaparte. He lost his trust in God after what had happened to him because he thought that God was never there when he needed help and justice. When his priest friend died, he had the chance to escape. After escaping, he traveled to the island of Monte Cristo to find the treasure. He considered his fortune as a gift from God. After finding the treasure, he went back to Marseilles and disguised himself as an Italian priest. He used the treasure to punish those people who have hurt him and made his life miserable, and brought back his family.
The movie gave me a new perspective of vengeance which is never meant for self-fulfillment but for the good of everybody.

Have you ever been wrongly accused of something? Perhaps a dear friend blames you for taking a hairbrush that they merely misplaced, or a family member yells at you for letting the house pet out, even though you were in another room completely. Usually we get upset with this person, and should the charge have large enough consequences, we begin to harbor a desire for revenge. This is what became of the lead character in the film The Count of Monte Cristo. The Count of Monte Cristo, released in 2002, was a film adaptation of a novel by the same name, written by author Alexandre Dumas. Within the span of the two hour long film, the audience views the tragic betrayal and false imprisonment of a young French sailor, by the name of Edmond Dantes,…

When the movie opens, Fernand and Edmond had been best friends for the entirety of their youth. Yet despite this, Fernand chooses to betray his friend to gain something he selfishly wanted. In the meantime, Edmond never committed the crime he was accused of, leading him to a false sentence in Chateau d’If prison. This is like Jesus walking through his life knowing his one friend, Judas, would eventually betray him. Judas received gold for his selfish want, while Jesus was crucified for a crime he never committed. Fernand, like Judas and many people today, would do anything…

Revenge, the action of inflicting hurt or harm on someone for their wrongdoings against another, is characterized as a corruption of the mind of the affected individual. Throughout the history of literature, countless authors have incorporated the theme of revenge into their works. For example, in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s, The Scarlet Letter, Roger Chillingworth seeks revenge on Minister Dimmesdale because of his crime committed with Hester. Similarly, in William Shakespeare’s, Othello, Iago devises an evil plan to avenge Othello of his rumored sin.…

There are many forms to degrade a person, some are deep wounds that can leave an imprint forever, and some go through one ear and out the other. There have been many occasions where one’s life is played upon, where the only solution is death. But there are two of those imprints I want to focus on; revenge and hatred and how these two abhorrent features can destroy a person physically and spiritually.…

Revenge, the film reminds us, is the death of closure. Bad deeds, even in this most devoutly Catholic of environments, can be answered by only more bad deeds. When ''Mystic River'' presents us with a stunning climax, there's still no relief in sight. A father realizes he has killed a lifelong friend for nothing. A wife rejoices in the killing. A cop acknowledges there's no end to crime. And the little boy whose father has done everything he can to protect him from the brutal cycles of the streets comes to look as stony and beaten as his dad. The jaunty parade with which the film concludes is a brilliant mockery of even the thought of happy…

Our political beliefs are often a driving force behind how we look at one another, make choices, and generally live our lives. In The Count of Monte Cristo, author Alexandre Dumas incorporates the conflict between the followers of Bonapartism and the followers of monarchy, or Royalists, of his time. Through establishing the villainous characters as Royalists and the protagonists as Bonapartists, Dumas clearly shows he is a supporter of Napoleon and also to show the corruption in politics in France during his era.…

    Monte Cristo Religion

Edmond Dantes, the protagonist in Alexandre Dumas’ The Count of Monte Cristo, credits God for being very important in his life. Since the beginning of time, religion has been a foundation in many people’s lives. Because of this, people adopt rules based on not just their religion, but on the beliefs of the Gods involved, promising to value and stand firm in adhering to such beliefs. These beliefs are subjective, leaving the role of the Divine in people’s lives to be up for interpretation. Two roles that God could play—giving mercy or overseeing justice—are debated, with people strongly supporting both sides. With that being said, God gives mercy in people’s lives, but, in Edmond Dantes’ life, God not only gives mercy, but also an “eye for…

People often spend hours planning revenge on someone but never follow through with it. However, some people create very meticulous plans for their enemy, and soon enough it takes over them. Revenge drives people to do horrible acts. Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Cask of the Amontillado” is about a man who gets his revenge on another by luring him into the catacombs, and then burying him alive. Similarly, the movie Gone Girl, produced by David Fincher, is about a woman who fakes her own murder to get revenge on her husband for cheating on her. Both stories depict the idea that revenge drives people to do appalling acts and is demonstrated in the characters, the conflicts, and the settings.…

The Scarlet Letter is one of the many novels that is loved by some people but hated by others. I’m somewhere in between. It was extremely different from what I was expecting but it made me so confused at some points that I cant completely say that I loved the storyline. I can say though that it was so much better than I thought, which evidently made me like it. This novel caught my attention in the beginning and held it until the very end. It just constantly had me going.…
