Technological advances over the past several decades have drastically changed how we function on a day to day basis. Typewriters and postal mail were sufficient ways to communicate in the past, and now computers and email have taken over and allowed an almost instantaneous line of communication. The technology of the computer has made a major impact on our lives, and will continue to develop in its sophistication, ability and scope. Computers have allowed for significant advances in communication, information technology, and simply how we function in our daily lives. Email, instant messaging, and social networking – just a few advances in computer technology that have vastly changed the way society communicates. With a few keystrokes you could be chatting with someone from the other side of the world. Instead of waiting days for a letter in the mail, email has made it possible to have a conversation via the world wide web while only waiting a few minutes for a response. All of these forms of communication have allowed for further advances in how information travels, consequently making way for development and implementation of information technology. IT (information technology) is one more thing that can be attributed to the computer and the technology it provides. From large corporations to small businesses to home settings, information technology is utilized in our society as a vital resource. Health care systems have implemented seamless information systems to allow for transfer of patient information from office to office in order to improve the health care experience. Retail stores use computerized systems to track inventory, make orders, transactions, and account for sales. At home, a plethora of information is at our fingertips with access to the internet. Everything from finding the nearest Thai restaurant to researching for a term paper – all made easier with use of the computer. We can now use computers to do our banking, shopping,

Now, people are able to do many things through the Internet in just one window and with a simple click. For instance, many people are paying their bills on line. Instead of having to go to the local business office and having human contact, now they pay through the Internet. Another good example is education. Many people aren't able to attend a normal school schedule because of their indisposition of time; therefore, online education is an excellent way to stay in school. Now people can create their own schedule and learn from their computer to continue their desire of education. Messages are also a good example in how people communicate these days. Currently, e-mail is a very fast way that people use to have contact with their family or friends by just clicking "send" and being answered in less than a minute. Most people prefer to use e-mail instead of sending a letter by posted mail because they would have to put the message in an envelope, buy a stamp, take it to the post office and wait more than one minute to be received. However, the people that use often the Internet know that the Internet is currently taking away human contact because of its convenience. People forget that it is important to keep human contact because society needs each other to fulfill their needs, for example its smell, its touch, feelings, sight, and many other…

Technology has advanced greatly in the last 20 years. The greatest advancement was the way we communicate. The Internet and Cell-phones have changed the way information is shared, the way we communicate and the way many of us spend our days. I find this all very interesting. I am now 23 and I have witnessed the world change from, house phones and letters, to the Internet and cell-phones. I remember when my family got caller ID for our home phone and I remember when the Internet was slow and nothing but simple text filled websites.
