Reading Interest Inventory Summary

Analysis of Reading Interest Inventory I gave Mariah Sheard a reading interest inventory with thirteen questions. Mariah said she likes reading, but has a hard time finding time to do it. When she did find time to sit down and read she would ready about two hours a week. She stated that her favorite types of books were non-fiction and drama. She said that she likes both series and non-series books but a lot of the time she does not get to finish the entire series. At the time of the survey she was not currently reading a book nor did she have a favorite book. The books that were easiest for Mariah to read were books that she can relate to. Her all time favorite book is The Power of I Am. I asked her what her favorite television show was to get a feel of what she liked spending her down time watching. When I ask Mariah how she would describe herself as a reader she said she enjoyed
She recommended two books to me. Her first recommendation was Sweetheart by Chelsea Cain. This is a mystery book is about a detective that was mistreated and the person responsible is behind bars. He soon finds out the person who was responsible has escaped. My dad is a detective so this book interest me even more. Even though this book is not considered “Young Adult Literature”, I will still be reading it for my thousand pages.
What I learned I learned it can be harder than it seems to find a book you think someone else would enjoy reading based on questions you ask them. Also, it is harder to find a book for someone who states they do not have much time to read and find it hard to read a book that is not something they absolutely enjoy reading. In the classroom, I can use interest inventories by giving one to my students then helping them find books they would enjoy reading. If the students can find books they actually want to read, it will make them more likely to love
