Reading Inventory Observation
During my observation in Mrs. Prieto’s class I had the chance to administer the basic reading inventory to a student. Before I administered the assessment, I took some steps in order to prepare myself for it. One of the first and crucial steps I did was researching. I first had to research how to grade and analyze the assessment. I also saw some videos on the Internet of teachers administering the assessment to their students with step by step instructions. I wanted to make sure I was well prepared just in case the student had any questions and because I wanted to feel confident while assessing the student.
Another way I prepared myself for this teaching was by going over the assessment multiple times on my own and also presenting the assessment

The student was engaged and he also showed confidence while reading the word list and passages. There were a few times that the student got distracted or became frustrated because the words began to get complex for his grade and reading level. The administration of the assessment was successful because I was able to assess and analyze the students reading level. This assessment helps teachers develop responsive reading instruction for their students. I felt well prepared when assessing the student because I had previously administered the assessment to a few of my classmates and I also went throughout the steps and instructions constantly before presenting the assessment to the …show more content…
Also, I learned it is always important to assess a student’s comprehension. It important to assess a student’s comprehension because a student might be good at pronouncing words and reading a passage orally, but the student might have trouble understanding or comprehending what he/she is reading.     Assessment is the ongoing, systematic collection of information on all students. Reading Assessment is one of the pillars of effective reading programs. Assessing reading skills can be very repetitive and can easily get boring. Many students dread to be tested especially the ones who struggle with reading. There are many different ideas in which you can assess a student in reading other than just by paper and pencil. There are many projects, games, and online software available.
