Rebeca Acosta Play Summary
Play-Jessica Wildman-Monday, October 24, 2016
The version of that play I watched was one done by Utah Valley University’s Department of Theatrical Arts. The name of the actors was Rebeca Acosta, Shawn T. Allen, Daniel Anderson, Heather Ashton, Alex Barlow, Jarom Christopher Brown, Leviticus Brown, Morgan Fenner, Cameron Garcia, Wendy Gourley, Emily Griffith, Tasha Hickman, Carrie Joslin, Logan Kendell, David McGregor, Elfi Panholzer, Lisa Russo, Scott M. Stringham, Julie Suazo, Lisa Nicole Thurman, and Caitlin Mattie Webb. The setting of the play takes place in the city of Messina a very, very long time ago. They refer to a war in the play and some characters even carry guns, so the time had to be probably around the Spanish Wars. The topic

    Tyesha Play Summary

This play, performed by only two people, was able to captivate our attention from the moment we sat down to the closing curtains. There were plenty of moments of confusion- some questions which were answered along the way and some that were left still lingering in my mind. Is Tyesha (the one in the drivers seat) represented through Myeisha too? Why did Tyesha have a gun and how did she get it? Why did the officers feel the need to shoot the unconscious girl 12 times, let alone once? After watching the performance, I questioned the play’s title and wanted an explanation. We didn’t know if Tyesha was unconscious or having a seizure, so it is assumed that she was in a dream-like state (like alluded to earlier on). One of the very first scenes was Myesha…

    Appropriate Play Summary

The event I attended was one of the many plays that takes place on campus in the arts building. The play I specifically attended was called Appropriate, which was originally written by playwright, Branden Jacobs Jenkins. The play was approximately 3 hours in length with an intermission included into that time. Overall, the play specifically deals with family conflict and the whole idea of race itself. All of the main characters in the play are all interconnected family members that originally are from the south. The main characters included: Toni (eldest sister who recently lost her job and is divorced, Frank (youngest brother who was a past drug used and alcoholic), and Bo (eldest brother who is a wealthy businessman). The more secondary characters in the play included: Rachel (Bo's Jewish wife), Ainsley (Bo and Rachel's youngest daughter), Cassidy (Bo and Rachel's eldest daughter, River (Frank's Fiancée), and Rhys (Toni's son) Ugly family secrets are uncovered in this play, while a family sorts through the estate of their deceased father. A grueling photo album is found during the whole cleanup process and it arises a variety of conflict. The photo album contained pictures of African Americans being lynched, abused, and dehumanized. This lead to the belief that the deceased father/grandfather of the family was a racist and possibly a part of the Klu Klux Klan at some point in time in the past. All of the siblings couldn’t grasp the fact that the album actually belonged to their father and tried…

The fencing material in the play is probably derived from the fencing manual of Saviolo, Vincentio Saviolo his Practise. Salviolo’s ideal view that “condemns male quarrelsomeness as irrational when it pursues personal revenge rather than godly truth and justice” is a source for both tragic and comic elements in the play (189).…

This tends to be the reason why Shakespeare’s plays such as The Comedy Of Errors and The Merchant of Venice are set in Italy and Greece respectively. In Messina everything is tranquil and serene and from the first act it looks like nothing can go wrong including relationships. A Shakespearean comedy would best be defined as “a play characterized by its humorous or satirical tone and its depiction of amusing people or incidents, in which the characters ultimately triumph over adversity.” Whilst a Shakespearean tragedy would be defined as “a play dealing with tragic events and having an unhappy ending usually with the death of a main character.” Much Ado About Nothing walks the fine line between a tragedy and a comedy. Although Much Ado About Nothing is advertised as a comedy, it would not be difficult for readers to look past the slapstick and satire and uncover a script that encompasses many aspects of an Elizabethan tragedy let alone a Shakespearean tragedy. In this essay I will attempt to understand whether Much Ado About Nothing can be played as a tragedy as well as a comedy, taking into consideration the different viewing experiences of both a modern and Elizabethan audience.…
