Reflection Of My Writing
As I look back on my previous writings, I can see some academic growth. I re-read several pieces of writing I did during my first semester of college. I wrote very few papers in high school and was not prepared for all the writing I was going to do in college. I really struggled with my first few papers and never really felt confident in anything I turned in. While I may not have necessarily received the grades I wanted, I have become more confident in my writing ability. With this reflection, I want to compare the different approaches I took when gathering information for a history paper I wrote last semester and the research paper we recently got back.

I was thinking to myself “I’ve never written that many words before. Do I even know 1800 words?” Obviously, I was stressed to the max and we were only on day one of the assignment. When were planning out ideas of what we were going to research, everybody was naming off topics that you hear every year whether it was body image and how barbie dolls cause girls to alter their lifestyle in hopes of achieving what is “beauty” or the affect of divorce on children in families. I tried to think outside of the box to try and help break up the monotony. At first, I wanted to research the effect that contact in professional football has on the players minds and the likely hood that they would commit some sort of sexual assault to their partner but I felt like I wouldn’t be able to find as many facts as I would my own opinion which is not a valid source of information. That is when I looked the most popular pop culture topic the world has to offer, Donald …show more content…
At first, I used the university’s library catalog to try and look for journal entries with writing about Donald Trump. I found some but to me it consisted of a lot of reading. To me that was a big negative cause the information that I was wanting to find out should just be every day knowledge and shouldn’t require reading pages of documents. My solution to this was to search google for reasons why people would actually vote for Trump. I would find articles that are biased in both directions just because of how he divides people with his outlandish comments. The research was not hard because he has so many people talking about him daily that it is almost too much information to go through. Having a topic like him made it easy to research but the part that held me back was the willingness to work to reach that goal of 1800 words. I have a problem with pushing assignments closer to the due date in hopes that the closer I get, the more of an urge I feel to get work done. Does progress at all? Of course not, I wait till the days before to work endlessly and to also cry a little in

At the beginning of the year it felt like I would have never been able to write any paper that was more than two pages long, it just seemed impossible, but for the research paper I actually had to stop myself from going off and writing a twelve page paper. I will admit and say that English is not my strong suit, in fact it is probably one of my more difficult classes. But just because it is difficult does not mean I don’t like it. I like looking for topics that interest me and still fit in with the guidelines, I like getting involved in the paper and researching the topic until it feels like my head is about to explode. I never saw any of that coming, I thought that I was going to have to go through English and just pray…

The tensions and distrust of Republican officials by the disenfranchised party members has provided the backdrop to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. In the current presidential election Republican candidate Donald Trump has been covered more extensively than any other candidate. Much of Donald Trump’s rhetoric are centered around shock value statements that make perfect controversial sound bites that are then repeatedly played on news channels, television shows, and posted online. According to an estimate by the New York Times the air time Donald Trump has received is worth over two billion dollars. Regardless of the fact that much of the coverage Trump has received the main value of all of that television coverage has been name recognition.…

I now have a more efficient system of planning and write multiple drafts before I feel at ease with submitting an assignment. Not only that, I now feel confident when writing papers and am able to complete assignments with little or no writers block. Although, writing in college has not been the easiest. It took me a while to transition to this level of writing and took a lot of hard work to get to where I am at now. Sometimes, I find myself over reviewing an assignment before I actually turn it in. Not that this is bad, but at times it takes me longer to submit an assignment than it…

A huge problem I was having was going more in depth with my analysis of the text and a way I addressed that was adding more examples in the text to support the argument I was making as well as the authors. I do think this was a major problem in my paper so I wish that I could have did a better job with this concept. I think that my most beautiful paragraph was my introduction because it described in great detail the monument and the meaning of mostly every element of the memorial. I have to say my worst paragraphs were my body ones because I feel I could have expanded more. Overall, I feel that I tried my best to come up with a quality paper and I enjoyed learning about Dr. King’s monument.…

Over the course of this year in English, I think my writing process has excelled the most along with my overall writing. In the past, I have used similar techniques to develop a final essay, but, this year, I have begin to rely more heavily on planning out and slowly chipping away at my essays and papers. I believe also that because of this planning the strength of my writing as a whole has grown. Personally, I do not think that I grew in my vocabulary usage. Overall this year, I grew as a writer in ways that I would not have predicted.…

In school, we have been required to write many papers on many different subjects, some being timed and others not. Writing has never been something that has come easy to me, especially when put on the spot and told to write a paper in a certain amount of hours. When I write, I like to have time to think and plan my essay. Being able to revise and edit the paper makes it even better than it was before. When I am given the time to plan my essay, the writing has more depth than when I am put on the spot and have no time to think about what will go into my paper.…

This research assignment has been a quite challenging assignment for me. The overall writing process has been the most difficult. Coming up with a draft was the first step in my writing process. I kept writing and every time I would go back, changes were made. I revised many paragraphs and run on sentences. In the beginning, I began to procrastinate because I did not even want to think about such a complex seeming assignment. After my meeting with Professor Klein, she gave me a lot of good feedback and ideas on how to start strongly. After my meeting, I started my essay on a better track and got a few pages complete. After the peer review session in-class, I learned a lot from my peers. My classmates thankfully gave me appropriate, last minute feedback. After this, I went back and fixed any grammar or formatting issues I had, along with adding more to my final essay. This process was long and not at all easy, but I was able to get it done efficiently.…

Style is a writer’s unique way of communicating ideas. It is often not only what writers say but how they say it that gives stories meaning and makes them memorable. To identify a writer’s style, focus on these elements: • Word choice, or the author’s choice of language. Hemingway strives to use vivid verbs and precise nouns rather than using many adjectives and adverbs. • Sentence structure and variety. In this story, Hemingway often uses long sentences for descriptions and short sentences when characters are talking. • Dialogue, or conversations between characters. Hemingway relies heavily on realistic dialogue as a method of characterization. As you read “A Day’s Wait,” notice how these elements help create Hemingway’s unique writing style. An Adventurous Life Ernest Hemingway lived a life full of adventure. He was one of a group of writers called the Lost Generation. These writers rejected what they saw Ernest Hemingway as an American 1899–1961 focus on acquiring many possessions. Along with being one of America’s most famous writers, Hemingway was a…
