I have undoubtedly become more culturally aware than I was before TECH-330. Throughout this class I have learned the importance of keeping an open mind in regard of other cultures and their customs. Furthermore, the assignments and PowerPoints have imparted me with a deeper understanding of how important it is to be culturally aware. This is especially true for business purposes.…
The goal of argumentative writing is to persuade an audience. Academic writers use rhetoric (language designed to have a persuasive effect) to persuade or convince readers that their position on an issue or topic is the correct one. In his study of rhetoric, the Greek philosopher Aristotle designed a model called a “rhetorical triangle.” This model describes every act of speech or text as being composed of three parts: the subject, the speaker, and the audience. According to Aristotle, all three points on this triangle must be taken into consideration in order to produce a successful persuasive…

I don't know if there is a universal correct definition of critical thinking. I think this a very individualistic tool used by humans to break down different problems and situations and the best way to go about coming up with the best resolution in a non-biased manner. Gathering a thought process that is reasonable and with demeanor. This is simply how I would personally define critical thinking. Thinking things over more than once, second guessing yourself here and there, seeing things from multiple perspectives, and most importantly thinking if your thoughts would be different from the other side of an argument or situation. I think critical thinking is important for us to fully understand ourselves and our situations as well as others and their situations. Critical thinking is considering multiple angles and viewpoints and trying to understand them and where they come from, as well as why they exist. In my life personally, critical thinking has always been something I would like to think I've had due to being raised in a very diverse atmosphere and a very diverse community. I've seen racism towards more than one race, I've seen both sides of different biases, and I have lived in a small town closed minded community as well as the middle of a large densely populated city. It makes you think differently than most around you. It seems like you feel differently than most around you. There isn't much that surprises you so there aren't many situations that you are uncomfortable in. You think before you act, you think before you speak, and you take time and consideration to realize the type of environment you are in and the people you are surrounded by. Things like this don't go through every young person's mind before acting or speaking. You slow down, you react calmer, and you try not to get too high or too low. From this course I don't think I'm looking for how to think critically as much as why some of…

In making a decision that could affect the future of the business, one needs to apply critical thinking to the thought process. In a recent work related situation, critical thinking played an active role in the decision-making process. Each administrative staff in our research institute is responsible for specific tasks. With the increase of reports being requested, new proposals being submitted, event planning, and volatility in travel reimbursements, the assistant director along with the administrative staff needed to reevaluate the assignment of duties. The following overview will outline the importance and benefits of critical thinking in the decision-making process as well as what steps were taken in the work-related decision.…

According to Foundation for Critical Thinking (2009), “Critical thinking is that mode of thinking—about any subject, content, or problem—in which the thinker improves the quality of his or her thinking by skillfully taking charge of the structures inherent in thinking and imposing intellectual standards upon them” (Defining Critical Thinking, para. 9). Thinking is part of everyone’s human nature. People who can separate their thoughts, analyze them, and change the behavior to make their thoughts more ethical and fair are the best critical thinkers. Every person has unethical and prejudiced thoughts on occasion. No person can be completely critical and ethical 100% of the time. This is when weak versus strong critical thinking comes into play.…

Of the topics that I could choose from, I chose to discuss how to reduce poverty in the United States. Poverty in the United States has been something that I have been personally hearing about since I was a child. It has always been a topic during every Presidential debate that I can remember. While growing up, I have always pondered ways of helping others that were less fortunate than myself. This had led me to believe whole-heartedly that the poverty rate can be reduced through several avenues.…
