Reflection On State Of Union Address 2012
State of Union Address 2012 The State of Union Address took place on Jan. 24, 2012 and followed specific traditions. All Congress members both in the Senate and House of Representatives, Supreme Court Justices, Generals, and distinguished guests were at the Address. The Cabinet came before the President and greeted everyone on the isles. When President Obama was ready, he was announced to the Speaker of the House. He also shook and kissed the Congress women and shook hands with Congress men. The most touching moment was when he personally greeted Gabrielle Giffords, a gunshot survivor. This was Obama’s 3rd State of Union speech, and would be recorded as one of the longest speech, 65 minutes. Obama’s speech started and ended with the Iraq War and the assassination of Bin Laden. stating his accomplishments his “administration” achieved such as, bailing out auto companies, businesses adding 3 million jobs, Iraq War, and fewer regulations.
He did not state the goals that he had promised to accomplish as failed, but did state the policies he wanted to be placed. He used this wide and listening audience to set the stage for his upcoming reelection campaign. He was always cheered by the Democrats and often had no response or silence from the Republicans. I agreed with many of the policies Obama wants to put in place: tax codes, education reform, and clean energy. I sincerely believe that companies should be awarded for having manufacturing centers in the States rather them being outsourced. The policy right now does not make sense, companies outsourcing get tax breaks while companies still at home get taxed heavily. He wants to put a basic minimum tax for multinational companies to protect US
companies. He said,” I will go anywhere in the world to open new markets for American products.” This statement bothered me because this is the exact reason why America is hated. America has done this before like in Latin America. We are trying to make ourselves prosperous on someone else’s demise. Obama was right on the spot about his educational reforms. I believe education is the key to a successful future. He wants all students in all 50 states to pass laws on drop-out high school ages. He wants students to stay in school until the age of 18 or until they graduate. He also wants to companies to partner with community colleges to teach workers the skills they need to work. The most influential thing he said about education was the interest on student loans should be lowered and threatened colleges to revoke funding if spike tuition. I also support his tax reforms, millionaires should not be taxed less than the middle class. Taxes should be fair, and the economy should be where everyone gets “a fair shot and play by the same rules and do their own fair share.” I support his educational and tax reforms.
