Economy is like the study of money, basically; money which dictates what happens in our lives. It is the reason for almost everything in existence, from lifestyles to resources. As sad as it may seem, it is the reason why we live; in order to generate enough money for us to sustain our lives and get the most out of it. Today, everything has its price.
As a student, I study so that I can have a better future; and by a better future, I mean to have enough money to last a lifetime, and even beyond! People work to gain money for them to live their lives comfortably and for their loved ones to also live life with as little problems as possible. In today’s global work scene, many employees are not suited for their jobs. Some may be underqualified, some may be overqualified, and some may just not be well equipped for their line of industry. In the Philippines alone, the BPO industry is the prime example of this. Nursing students and students from different fields of study end up working in an outsourcing company far from their hard-earned knowledge. Proper human resourcing is such a problem that even drug cartels are experiencing it. More and more people are getting out of sync with their line of works due to the lack of available jobs for their fields or lack of experience.
I guess money’s effect is even greater than what we think. Moguls, tycoons, billionaires, and the rich almost control the whole world just because they have the financial resources. In turn, this creates a drastic inequality worldwide. Heck, these people are so powerful that they are mostly responsible for the happenings in the global economy. They may not be entirely bad, but they are certainly not entirely good. The “poorer” countries are more often than not on a disadvantage against the richer ones.
