Reflective Essay
Reflective Essay Culture can be described as beliefs, music, food, fashion, values, religion and much more. Some countries or states may have the same culture as one another. Being multicultural gives me knowledge and experience of distinguishing differences and similarities between the Lebanese culture and the American culture.
I’m fully Lebanese but I was born and raised here in Richmond, Virginia. Juggling two lives at once was and still is very difficult for me. Most of the things my friends would and still do, I couldn’t and still am not able to do due to my culture. At the same time, the things I do that relate to my culture and my background, my friends couldn’t and possibly still can’t do or understand because they had no clue what it was. One cultural difference in is clothing. I didn’t have much of a choice when it came to clothing. I was able to wear short sleeves just like everybody else in my generation. I wasn’t able to wear strapless shirts, one sleeve shirts, or spaghetti straps because that wasn’t part of my culture. As for the pants, I could wear any kind of pants except one kind. I wasn’t allowed to wear booty shorts or in other words, short shorts. If I wanted to wear shorts, they would be fingertip. For Americans, going out to eat almost every weekend was a norm. Whereas for me, going out almost every weekend most certainly wasn’t a norm. We Lebanese prefer a home cooked meal. The Lebanese culture has a huge variety of foods where as Americans have a small variety of foods. For example, Lebanese have a choice of Shawarma, Tabouli, and Hummus. Whereas Americans have mostly fast food. Music is listened to all around the world. In the Lebanese culture, we listen to Arabic and English music. We as Lebanese people only listen to English music because of cultural imperialism. When all the foreigners came to Lebanon, they brought their music and the Lebanese radio producers started airing all the English songs on the radio in Lebanon. Here in
