Reflective Statement
My learning style has changed from the time I embarked on this course. I have found out my strengths and weaknesses in as far as learning is concerned. At first my understanding of marketing was limited and I thought marketing was just about buying and selling only.
However, I now understand that Marketing involves other activities such as organisation, distribution, product promotion, pricing and advertising. Working as a group in class activities when doing case studies and lectures has greatly enhanced my knowledge of marketing as well as improving my learning skills. What I have learned about myself is that when working as a group I make contributions to group discussions and I tend to remember issues discussed for a long time. However, the only downside about group work is that some members spend more time discussing irrelevant issues and I consider this as disruptive behaviour. .
My perception about marketing has drastically changed due to the fact that I have spent more time researching on the internet, textbooks, journals and newspapers and this has exposed me to a wide variety of information that I consider important for the purpose of my study.
My own perception about brands is that some people associate brands with designer products or expensive good and branding can be segmented to suit the individual or group of people. Brand names are not restricted to product and goods, but may also include services and names of successful celebrities such as David Beckham. However, I also now know that consumers are cautious about where they want to buy the products and goods they need particularly where the supplying organisation or company is reputable. Reputable companies are normally always associated with quality products. Some customers will not buy inexpensive goods or products, because they associate price with quality. However, knowing such customers’ behaviour will tremendously inform the company’s decision on pricing.

    A positive learning environment are trust, open communication and shared learning experiences.Trainer is one who can create a positive learning environment, which will allow the students to feel comfortable, safe and engaged – something that all students deserve. I applied some factors that build a positive learning environment. Adult learners require the learning to be relevant, are highly motivated, need active involvement in the learning process, a variety of learning experiences, positive feedback, need to be recognized as individuals with unique experiences, to maintain their self-esteem. A positive learning environment requires the involvement of learners - to ask questions and feedback, encourage discussions, group and individual activities, group discussions, visual aids, role plays. The effective trainer helps to create the positive learning environment when using a variety of techniques for providing positive feedback. To provide positive feedback is to give verbal praise, to use positive responses during questioning, recognize appropriate skills. Be sure to treat the participants as individuals when using participant names, to involve all participants as often as possible, to treat participants with respect, to allow participants to share information with others, to maintain the self-esteem of learners with reinforcing practices and beliefs embodied in the activity, providing corrective feedback in an appropriate manner, providing training that adds to their sense of competence and self-esteem, recognizing participants accomplishments.…

    The Individual Oral Presentation on dream interpretation expanded my knowledge of Chronicle of a Death Foretold. Gabriel Garcia Marquez uses many undertones in the dreams of characters to symbolize a deeper meaning. Dream interpretation was common among cultures like the ancient Egyptians and was seen as early as 4000 B.C. During the 1950s, Colombia was mainly catholic, and had strict views that only involved religion. In Catholicism, dreams are seen as not important, but Marquez ironically uses dreams as a way to symbolize deeper meanings in a catholic society. Before Santiago’s death, his mother recalls a dream he has about flying in a tinfoil airplane through almond trees, and states that “any dream about birds means good health,” but ironically, Santiago’s dream is interpreted wrong. His mother also says that he was going “through a grove of timber trees;” his dreams are seen as happy, but the author contrasts it by stating that “they were going to kill him” that day (Marquez 3). The author uses the undertones of dream interpretation to foreshadow and symbolize events in the novel. In another individual oral presentation, the presenter explained that Marquez wrote Colombian journalism for newspapers. His background explains why he contradicted magical and realistic events in the novel. After listening to this presentation, it expanded my knowledge of Chronicle of a Death Foretold.…
