The study looked at clients who lived in residential type settings compared to those who were in apartments. Everyone participating had about the same income which was about $496 per month. What was looked at was the comparison of housing characteristics and hope, and when the study was completed, the researchers found that there was not that much difference. From the experiences that I have seen when clients are placed into what is called “scattered sites,” having to learn to adjust to apartment living is difficult for those who have been living on the streets for many years. I noticed that when I worked with other clients I was a little more attentive to what was being said and how I would do my follow-up questions. Listening to what and how they would phrase their answers and questions I found to be looked at differently as well. I believe this assignment helped me be more aware, which in turn will be a better social worker. Working with the clients that I have this semester, I have found myself doing quite a bit of evidence research to help inform my practice, and then taking what I have discovered and bring that and my questions to supervision. Because this internship and the variety of client that I deal with on a daily basis, each one can be unique in their own way. I possess that inner drive to be better and want to be able to help those that are in need of help. Understanding the person and the environment that surrounds them is an important factor when case managing a client in this environment. I have spent many hours obtaining a better understanding of the struggles the client’s face, the barriers that they faced on a daily basis, and since being housed, what struggles they face when they wake up each day. Having a better understanding of this will help me become a better social worker when it comes to helping this particular
