Refrigeration and Air Conditioning
REFRIGERATION AND AIR CONDITIONING 1. DEFINATION OF REFRIGERATION
Refrigeration is defined as “ the branch of science that deal with the process of reducing and maintaining the temperature of confined space or material below the temperature of surrounding” the system maintain at lower temperature is known as refrigerated system and equipment used to obtain this is known as refrigerator. The cooling effect produced by this equipment is the refrigerating effect.

2. PRINCIPLE OF REFRIGERATION
According to Clausius’s statement of second law of thermodynamics ,heat does not flow from low temperature region to high temperature region without help of external energy. Thus ,in order to transfer heat from low temperature to high temperature ,work must be supplied to refrigerator, which produces cooling effect.such cooling may be obtain by one of the following principle. 1. By chemical mean ,in which chemical reaction is carried out to absorb the heat for its completion. The heat required for reaction taken from the substance to be cooled. 2. By bringing the substance to be directly or indirectly in contact with some cooling medium such as chilled water or ice. 3. By using mechanical and heat energy to operate heat pump.

* METHOD OF REFRIGERATION

Refrigerating effect can be produced by using following methods.— 1) Ice refrigeration. 2) Refrigeration by expansion of air. 3) Refrigeration by throttling of air 4) Steam jet refrigeration 5) Vapour compression cycle 6) Non convention method of refrigeration a) Vortex tube refrigeration b) Pulse tube refrigeration c) Solar refrigeration

REFERIGERATION CYCLES

1) REVERSED CARNOT CYCLE 2) AIR REFRIGERATION CYCLE a) BELL COLEMAN AIR REFRIGERATION CYCLE 3) VAPOUR COMPRESSION CYCLE

    A chemical reaction often indicated by a transfer of energy measured in heat. By measuring this heat transfer in a constant pressurized environment, the enthalpy of the reaction can be used to infer certain information about a specific reactions reactants and products. The transfer of heat from outside sources in would be described as an endothermic reaction. Contrary, when a reaction releases heat out to its surroundings it is described as an exothermic reaction.…

    The refrigeration system can be defined as a closed system in which the process of absorbing and rejecting heat is performed by flowing a refrigerant in a vapor compression cycle. In its simplest form, the refrigeration system consists of five components: the compressor, condenser, evaporator, expansion device, and interconnecting piping.…

    A chemical reaction is the process of altering the composition and structure of one set of chemical substances to another.1 Two or more elements react forming a chemical compound. These changes occur due to the movement of electrons breaking and forming new chemical bonds.2 Factors can influence the rate in which the reaction occurs, these include catalyst, concentration, temperature and particle size. All chemical reactions result in changes of energy whether that it through light, sound and of course heat. When energy (heat) is released from a reaction into its surroundings, it is called an exothermic reaction. However, on the hand when heat is absorbed it is called an endothermic reaction.3…

    A chemical reaction is a reaction that happens everywhere. It is a process which includes one or many other substances. The substances are converted in to one or more different substances. The substances are one of either chemical elements or compounds.this chemical reaction rearranges the constituent atoms of the reactions to create different substance as products. The chemical reaction of heat on alka seltzer begins when the tablet enters the water.…

    Carnot cycle demands that the expansion take place isentropically and that the resulting work be used to help drive the compressor. Practical difficulties, however, militate against the expansion engine: the possible work that can be derived from the engine is small fraction that must be supplied to the compressor. practical problems such as lubrication intrude when a fluid of two phases drives the engine. the economics of the power recovery have in past not justified the cost of the expansion engine. A throttling device, such as a valve or other restriction, is almost universally used for this purpose.…

    The basic idea behind a fridge is that the cold temperatures slow down bacteria activity (something that all food contains), so that the process of decaying food would take longer. The fridge contains and stores many different items, allowing their users to store – as well as preserve- anything they wanted for extended amounts of time. Inside the fridge lies a freezing chamber, a refrigeration chamber, a cooling system, a cooling circuit, and a cooling surface in each of the chambers. With this construction, temperature regulation is done by balancing the surfaces of each of the cooling units. Exterior units are made using glass, plastic, and metal. Using…
