One solution that would address this problem would be to create a program that would teach parents basic skills on how to be supportive and involved in their children's academic journey.
The first thing that I would is to conduct a research project to find out how many immigrants/refugees’ families have children attending school in the Wake County area. From there, I would contact different organizations to seek volunteers who are willing to work diligently to impact families. A final step is to reach out to the families through organizations that work with immigrants/refugees to facilitate the work. The reason why I recommend this action is because I believe, in anyone’s success, there is always a person in the back that pushes that person to be where they are in life. From my perspective, with a lot of trauma that immigrants/refugees’ children have faced in their lives before coming to the United States, the people that matter the most in their lives are their families. Therefore, if they receive adequate support from their families, especially their parents, they will be able to achieve more
things.
Since the program will be run by volunteers, one challenge to implement the plan would be to find active volunteers who are willing to provide transportation for the families at their own cost. Since most of the services given to immigrants/refugees are provided by the volunteers, I thought this program could operate similarly to avoid expenses
