In my opinion I think that Kenneth S. Washington was a founding father of African American sports. Kenneth S. Washington was a professional football player who was the first African American to sign a contract on March 9, 1946 with a National Football League team in the modern area. Washington was born August 31, 1918, he died June 24, 1971. When Kenny Washington went on to the University of California, Los Angeles ( UCLA) he found an athletic department that considered ability rather than skin color. Also Kenny Washington played for the UCLA Bruins Kenny Washington who broke the black barrier, and he was in the college hall of fame but not in the NFL Hall of Fame. Kenny Washington received numerous honors but they were primarily…

Ralph Bunche was born on August 7, 1904 in Detroit, Michigan. Growing up Bunche had an extremely strong and supportive family that included his parents, his aunts, his uncles and his strong-minded grandma. The Bunche family was extremely hard working and took nothing for granted. “We were a proud family- The Johnson clan. We bowed to no one, we worked hard and never had any shame about having little money.” (PBS) Fred Bunche, Ralph’s father, worked as a barber in an all white area. During the years of segregation after it was made that colored people were allowed to go to colleges and have an education Thurgood Marshall had gone to Howard University School of Law (magna cum laude) to work in the field of law and begins private practice in Baltimore. When Thurgood Marshall fought for equality he used previous cases he worked to defend his position that he could be the person to work cases for racial equality in the Supreme Court. Marshall used his words of experience to prove that he indeed had much experience even as a colored man. Thurgood Marshall inspires people by being brave and working his way to obtain his high position even though he wasn't privileged. Marshall also inspired people by showing them there was…

Thurgood Marshall was a great African American Civil Rights activist who changed a lot of lives in the United States. As a passionate lawyer and prominent Supreme Court justice he fought for Civil Rights and social justice in the courts and believed that racial integration is best for all schools. Very early in his professional life Marshall broke down racial barriers and overcame resistance despite the odds. He then became a role model of the disciplined leader, although he didn’t have the religious qualities or charisma as Martin Luther King. However, in terms of achievements, most of us would agree that he should be ranked next to Martin Luther King Jr. Thurgood was particularly famous for winning the Brown vs. Board of Education case, where the Supreme Court case had said that black children should go to school with white children. He helped many Americans win their civil rights, which is one of the many unique qualities that marked Marshall’s accomplishments. Those who knew Thurgood Marshall could specifically testify to his other vocations, some of which included the training and mentoring of young lawyers, thereby helping them to achieve their potentials.…
In history, it is a proven fact that leader is to lead in everything that we do in our daily lives. During the civil rights times on into the current time, there were black leaders of America that changed the world. Many black leaders paved the way for many of African Americans today and some died for us. Their ideas, tactics, and solutions for problems faced by blacks were significant. The three black leaders of America I will be discussing are Fredrick Douglas, Malcom X, and Martin Luther King.…
This entrepreneur was Sir Alan Michael Sugar, born 24th March 1947. Notorious for his smash TV show, the Apprentice UK, Sugar truly epitomises the saying, rags to riches. Sugar was born in the decadent town of Hackney, East London where a family consisting of very little money brought him up. During his schooling years, he was never a popular boy; he was teased day in day out, for always having such ridiculously high ambitions. (Chancellor, 2005) (Wikipedia, 2013)…
