Rehema PEFA Case Study
Background
Rehema PEFA children home was established in 1999. The name Rehema is a Swahili word meaning mercy and PEFA is an acronym for Pentecostal Evangelical Fellowship of Africa. The home was founded by Irvin and Ruth Schwandt in association with the Pentecostal Evangelical Fellowship of Africa [PEFA] church leadership and is currently being sponsored by churches, individuals and businesses.
The main purpose for the establishment of the home is to rescue and care for abandoned and orphaned children with an emphasis on HIV positive children. Its objective is to care for its children as long as they need care and also to find adoptive homes for the children. In addition the only beneficiaries of the organization are children.

Even though the home has a rule that all people should wash their hands before feeding the children; it has not focused on other areas that may cause a lot of health problems. For example the store in which they store there food is very dirt. When I was doing there my community service I was the one cleaning it every week and I even encouraged the workers to help in keeping it clean but they never did. There I would like to urge its management to enforce in keeping the store clean. The store is supposed to mainly keep raw cooking materials or raw material such as potatoes or sukuma wiki. However the workers also keep there harmful things such as detergents which if they might mix with the food might lead to poisoning that might be hard to explain and since the home has many children it this might be a massive disaster. Another cause of lack of cleanliness in the store is using it as a working place. Some workers work in the store for example they peel potatoes or carrots in the store and then they do not clean it after that hence living it dirt. Therefore the home should ban using the store as a working room and just maintain it as a food …show more content…
First this method is very outdate and does not provide a means for better recording. Also it encourages corruption and provided that Kenya is rated among the most corrupt countries in the world; this might lead to very bad effects to the organization. Therefore I suggest the organization should start paying through banks or using mobile money transfer such as mpesa. This will encourage proper documentation and reduce possibility of corruption.
Conclusion
In conclusion Rehema Pefa children home has a rich and good history. Also it has helped in the social development in Kenya and even in the achievements of the provisions of the Kenyan constitution and therefore it will help in the more betterment of the country. Hence if the organization can just adopt the few recommendations that I have suggested, it will even improve further and prevent future problems. Lastly I had a nice time doing my community service at the home, playing with the children, interacting with the other people in the organization and I even made new

One of my goals is to promote healthy habits. To establish and maintain a healthy environment is to prevent the spread of germs and promote healthy eating habits. Germs can be easily spread among the age group of children in my care, because they are in close contact with each other. One of the ways I promote a healthy environment is hand washing. I wash my hands and wear gloves before and after handling food, helping with toileting, changing diapers and cleaning noses. I have the children wash their hands during similar times and ensure that they do it properly. Cleaning and sanitizing play areas daily and mouthed toys are immediately removed from the play area and sanitized at the end of the day. I teach the children about healthy eating on a daily basis. At lunch and snack time we talk about the healthy foods and not so healthy foods that they are eating and what food is best for their growing bodies. I have two weeks of lesson…
