Actor says he was “never in” and prefers to bring attention to the body dysmorphia that led him to plastic surgery
Modern Family star Reid Ewing, 27, has now confirmed to the world and his fans that he is gay, according to his recent Twitter post. He plays Dylan, who is a love interest on the show of Hayley Dunphy, who is played by Sarah Hyland in the award-winning ABC TV series.
The Twitter post started as a talk about body dysmorphia, on which Reid wrote an essay for Huffington Post. It is an illness Reid Ewing himself has dealt with. He told another Twitter user he thought that Eugene Bata, who was in a Good Morning America segment on the illness, was “hot” and that he was attracted to him.

He reported that he received numerous tweets from fans encouraging him and thanked them all for their support. However, he says he really would like to talk about a much bigger issue; that of people suffering with the mental illness of body dysmorphia.

Actually, the original Tweet topic was one that Ewing is very close to: body dysmorphia, in which a sufferer obsesses on how their body looks. Ewing says that it is a mental illness that he struggled with and is still struggling with. Ewing says he would obsess by sitting in his apartment and taking a lot of pictures of himself from every angle and then analyze them meticulously.
In his essay, he describes how he underwent cosmetic surgery starting at age 19 due to the body dysmorphia and told fans he wished he hadn’t done it. He says he wants to get the message out to people that they shouldn’t have cosmetic surgery unless they truly need it and that they should instead have more confidence in
