1. Research Problem
1.1 Problem Statement
China’s economy has been growing rapidly during the past two decades, so does the inflation rate. Consequently, there comes the problem whether there is any kind of correlation between them. This research focuses on the relationship between China’s inflation rate and economic growth.
1.2 Significance of the problem
Inflation is a general and progressive increase in the prices of goods and services in an economy, which in turn erodes the purchasing power of money. If inflation cannot be controlled to a limited range, unemployment and unsteadiness will occur. Economic growth is another important issue for a country’s development. However, it is always influenced by the policy of a county and the current market circumstances.
1.3 Research Sub-questions * Whether there is a significant correlation between China’s inflation rate and economic growth.
If the correlation exists, then we need to find out: * Whether there is a cause-and-effect relationship between China’s inflation rate and economic growth. * Whether there is a long-term relationship between China’s inflation rate and economic growth.
2 Research Objectives * Investigate China’s economic conditions to gain basic knowledge of its CPI, core inflation rate and GDP * Review recent empirical literature on inflation and economic growth * Make hypothesis and gather data from reliable sources * Use statistic method to analyse data and draw a conclusion
