Thailand claim Preah Vihear temple as theirs but the International Court of Justice(ICJ), in
1962, return the temple to Cambodia after some investigation. Temples are Cambodian national monuments. After the claim have failed there have been wars between the countries.
Later on the countries have been in peace. After these long wars, how do you think people between countries interact with each other? You maybe surprised to find what had happened when a Cambodian who is living in the boarding house at UWCSEA met Thai students and staffs. One day he met a Thai student in the school. It was a community building day. However, interestingly he talk to him and they interact and talk to each other very well. Later on, he met one of the chef, he’s from Thailand but in a way he react the same way as he did with the Thai student, they smile and talk to each other like good friends. Likewise, Aditi, a student of 8JRa has a friend from Pakistan and they often talk to each other a lot last year; however, the relationship isn’t so close anymore since they are in different mentor class. However, according to Aditi, if they are in the same class they would still be friends. Maybe it’s because of education that caused all this. The mission statement of UWC movement is to make education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for a peace and sustainable future. As this mission statement goes the students and staff at UWCSEA work together to for a peace and sustainable future by just using education and maybe that’s why people in UWCSEA is friendly to all nations. Now what, you may ask, should you do? You should change your mindset to this: what have happened before is ancient history, the new generation will live in peace
