Today’s media consists of a considerable large amount of violence, which is why censorship is a necessity. If we do not have censorship the children of today could be influenced by the violent actions they see and think it is okay to copy those actions/behaviors. In order to censor these actions and determine why we should censor media we must first determine what constitutes as media violence. For example, a young boy gasoline on the lower part of his body then set himself on fire all because he saw someone do it on a TV series. This just shows how children will see something in the media and think it is okay for them to do the same thing without injury or consequence. Another example of this is a young boy who was convicted of first degree murder after embracing a little girl, raising her up and then dropping her on the ground imitating a common wresting move seen on TV (Carter and Weaver, 2006). Both of these incidents could have more than likely prevented if censorship practices were suggested more to parents to use and if these practices were free and easy. There are ways today for parents to put a lock on certain ratings making it impossible for the viewer to see those ratings unless they have a password. The problem with having this accommodation is some cable companies charge extra for it so parents do not bother to have it, but if the law required all cable companies provide their customers this accommodation we may see a change in media violence consumed by the children of …show more content…
By doing this I will know that the students understand the many types of media out there and know what I may be referring to throughout the educational program. The next topic will deal with fact versus fiction. During this time we will look at the misinformation or fabrication media sometimes shows and why just because you see it on TV or in a video game does not mean you should copy or jump on the bandwagon.
