Religion In Mesoamerican Culture
Religion in the Mesoamerican area, was very religious orientated. Everyone alive believed that the Gods were the leaders of human life. The Maya believed in Gods such as that of the ancient nature gods, in the fire God, the god of rain and of maize. In order to worship them they created massive festivals and held ceremonie to please the Gods. They also honoured the dead through their spirit. This festival and celebration is still celebrated today in Mexico today on November 1. The many Gods of the Maya included Huitzilopochtli; God of the sun, sacrifice and war. Xipe Totec; God of fertility. Religious ceremonies were led by high priests who wore make up around their eyes and also painted their bodies with blood. Giving off a terrifying appearance.
All of their Gods were associated with the Earth and the stars including the sun. There was even a God of Maize which is corn. A god of Corn.
