id you know the Aztecs made thousands of acres of land by hand incredible? The Aztec Empire was a civilization that was located in present day Mexico City and existed from 1350 to 1519. The Aztecs Empire believed in 128 major gods that they would honor in rituals and ceremonies. Should historians emphasize agriculture or human sacrifice?
Agriculture and this is why, the Aztec’s did so many interesting things that pertained to agriculture. For example, building Chinampas, tying religion into agriculture, and having set roles for everyone working on crops.

This happened because as the Aztecs were farming the Chinampas they believed that all this food came from the Sun God, Huitzilopochtli, and many other deities. The Aztecs had a “god” onsite to oversee the operations. The value of this is the Aztecs worshiped this god with all the work they did. They believed that the gods helped grow the different crops and that a higher power placed them their for their good work. This is how religion related to agriculture.

How did different people contribute to agriculture? as stated in document C Women had a less laboring job than the men did. Women were given the jobs of taking raw crops and turning it into food, because they believed that the true farming process was a man’s work. Men had to do all of the manual labor because everyone else had a different role to play in the crop seasons. The god oversaw the operation and never assisted. This represents the hierarchy in religion in agriculture and shows how different people contributed to agriculture,

In conclusion, Historians should focus on agriculture because it was an extremely advanced process. It took many techniques to make sure that they would have a successful crop season. The Aztec Empire was an incredibly smart and advanced empire. The Aztecs were the first to man make their own farmland and create a connection between religion and agriculture

Like all the Mexican peoples, the Aztecs worshiped a multitude of gods, each of whom demanded offerings and sacrifices. Above all, the Aztecs considered themselves the chosen people of HUITZILOPOCHTLI, the sun and war god, in whose name they were destined to conquer all rival nations. Huitzilopochtli shared the main temple at Tenochtitlan with Tlaloc, the rain god, important to the farmers in a land where drought was a constant threat. Another important god was QUETZALCOATL, the feathered serpent, patron of arts and crafts and the god of self- sacrifice. Religion was ever present. Each place and each trade had its patron deity: each day, and each division of the day, was watched over by its own god. Priests were expected to live in chastity,…

My first reason on why historians should focus on agriculture is because of how much acres there is for farming. Most of Aztec territory was covered with floating islands called chinampas. The chinampas helped the Aztecs have more room for crops. According to Peter N Stearns “Approximately 20,000 acres of chinampas were constructed around Tenochtitlan.” The chinampas were built very specific. Stearns states “These were floating islands approximately 17 feet long and 100 to 300 feet wide that rested in reed frames.” An acre is a size of a football field, so imagine 20,000 football fields put together. The chinampas were a very important aspect of the Aztecs life because it was the reason why they had food and were able to make tortillas and farm.…

The Aztecs practiced what we now called democracy. The Aztecs had a supreme speaker (not an emperor) and divided their land into corporate clans, where each clan elected their administration officers and speakers. They also had a gran administration that elected the supreme speaker. Down in the south the Incas had what seems today a state of the art agricultural system. They had fertilizers and developed a different type of plant for the different type of soil. They had a massive diversity within potatoes reaching up to three thousands five hundred types of potatoes. They had different types of plants for the different types of systems. Throughout the whole Americas the indigenous people had an understanding in medicine. The Aztec had a sophisticated medical system ranging from surgeons to healers. The people from the Andes even preform brain surgery. If paying attention to their society they all focus to main things, their religion (for many if not all relate to nature) and the well-being of their own people. For the most part the sun was the key of their religion or their god .They specifically value nature for everything that was giving to them. They used gold and other metals to decorate and didn’t worship or gave it much focus. Due to their focus on nature and not greed they were able to invent and discover the many benefits that our…

There are many aspects of life that one can focus on for a certain population or in a country. Two main aspects of everyday life for the Aztecs were agriculture and human sacrifice. Of course both are highly important and part of the Aztecs society, but with an astonishing 10,000,000 people in the Aztec population, could one really put more emphasize one or the other? This is defiantly a tough question for historians to answer… or is it? To decide on great agriculture or brutal sacrifices, it would have made this decision much easier to choose from if we saw a first person document written by someone that was going to be sacrificed. For three important reasons, greater emphasis should be placed on agriculture: the enormous chinampas were out of this world, the amazing construction of the chinampas, and that it leads to be part of everyday life for the Aztec people.…

Imagine Living in a city called Tenochtitlan, where your main power is blood from human sacrifices. The Aztecs lived in Mexico in the 1350-1519, their land that they owned was 80 miles from north to south and 49 miles from east to west. The Aztecs were creating a remarkable world-class society in the Americas. The Aztecs dominated the region around modern-day Mexico city. At their peak, they controlled the lives of some ten to 20 million people. Not always well loved by the other groups in the area, the Aztecs created a society that surprised and impressed the Spanish conquistadors who arrived in 1519. We begin our study of the Aztecs in 1519 because that is the year Hernan Cortes and 500 Spanish conquistadors came. However, we were interested in the…

The great Aztecs were very intelligent, and made many cultural achievements. First of all, they adapted to the marshy Lake Texcoco by creating artificial islands called ‘chinampas’ and bridges over the water called ‘causeways’. As for crops, they created a 365 day calendar so they could plan planting, harvesting, and watering. Plus, they enjoyed music, dance, poetry, and sculpture. Perhaps their greatest achievement was their stone temples. With great height, and innovation, the Aztecs are known for their great buildings.…

“According to Document B Source- Peter N. Stearns, World Civilization: The Global Experience, Addison Wesley, 2001.” All of these was around “Tenochtitlan and the yield from them was highest for corn crops per year were possible.” According to Document B towards the end Source- Peter N. Stearns, World Civilization: The Global Experience, Addison Wesley, 2001. “Approximately twenty thousand acres of chinampas were constructed [around Tenochtitlan] and the yield from them was high:four corn crops per year were possible.”The Aztecs developed an ingenious system for irrigating agricultural called the chinampas that were all there crops would grow there were very nicely organized and people would help with the chinampas. From all of that the men would plant the and harvest it while the women grind and roll it in tortillas. From this there was religion put in there crops because of the corn goddess. That is another reason I picked Aztec agriculture because they put religion in their crops by growing corn. Also crops was an all around year process when the human sacrifice was once a year. That is a major part when the chinampas are very important instead of human…

The Americas are places where beautiful empires from ancient populations settled, spreading their culture, architecture, knowledge, and art, among other qualities. Two important empires that were raised during 600-1550 CE in the Americas are the Aztec Empire in Mesoamerica, and the Inca Empire in the Andes. “The Inca Empire and its contemporary Aztec Empire grew out of political, economic, and cultural pattern that began to form around 600 CE” (Von Sivers et al. 433). The Inca and Aztec Empires are an important and valuable piece of history that represent the innovations and rapid growth from the past cultures. Aztec religion is complex in its organization and mythology. The complexity is due to the mixture of its own tribal perceptions of the supernatural, as well as the blending of other cultures the Aztecs came in contact. Because of this, there are many religious rites which must be performed in order to appease the many gods. Religious ceremonies were performed every twenty days and required dances, feasts, prayers, as well as torture and sacrifice. In addition to complicated ceremonies, they had a complicated doctrine of how the world came to be, as each god has their own personality and their actions affect the world.…
