In this essay, I will be evaluating the following statement: “Religious existences prove that God is real.”. As well as explaining my own opinion, I will be considering opinions of another person, as well as a religious group in general.
A religious experience is an experience in which people feel they have encountered God or God has intervened in their lives. Examples of religious experiences are: Healing and conversion, near death experiences, miracles, visions or prayers being answered.
I don’t agree with this statement. Religious experiences are connected to the person that it’s happened to. Believing in the existence of God is a very personal thing, as is following a religion as well, …show more content…
Atheists would share this view. Muslims would believe this story and say that God was showing his power, and guiding Yusuf Islam to the right path.
An example of possible proof is the story of Gabriel Gargam. Gargam was extremely sick, paralysed from the waist under, in fact, and had to be fed through a tube for two years. He was taken to Lourdes, and received Holy Communion. Unfortunately, he was not cured. After receiving communion, Gargam fainted, presumed dead, at the ‘Miracle Pool’. After being covered with a shroud, a priest walking past blessed the so-called corpse. Gargam then rose and stood up, walking around, and, later, eating food normally. Gargam was studied by 60 well known doctors, and they proclaimed that nothing was wrong with him!
However, this story, although, in my opinion, the most credible, cannot be seen as absolute proof as, although thiests would believe that God healed Gargam, atheists could believe that it was a mental condition - i.e. he believed that he was ill, so he was ill, and, when he heard the priest blessing him, he believed that he was better, some he became
