RENAISSANCE
RENAISSANCE ART OF LEONARDO DA VINCI AND MICHELANGELO BUONARROTI Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo were two of the greatest artists that ever existed. The elder man, Leonardo is an extraordinary person that exceeds in two completely different disciplines - experimental science and the visual arts. But on the artistic side alone, Michelangelo must be the man. He produces works, all of the utmost quality, in the four distinct fields of sculpture, painting, architecture and poetry. (Gascoigne, Bamber.2001) In observing the works of these two great Renaissance artists, their energetic personalities and great accomplishments, one sees many similarities. However, they selected different techniques and different mediums. Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo are considered to be the two other great masters of High Renaissance Art. The common term Renaissance man has been used historically to describe polymaths or persons who aspired to be polymaths. The idea occurred from a number of great thinkers of that era who excelled in multiple fields of the arts and science. (Tricia Ellis-Christensen 2012). “Leonardo da Vinci was one of the greatest painters and most versatile geniuses in history. He was one of the key figures of the Renaissance, a great cultural movement that had begun in Italy in the 1300 's. Leonardo, as he is almost always called, was trained to be a painter. But his interests and achievements spread into an astonishing variety of fields that are now considered scientific specialties. Leonardo studied anatomy, astronomy, botany, geology, geometry, and
optics, and he designed machines and drew plans for hundreds of inventions. Because Leonardo excelled in such an amazing number of areas of human
