Another symbolic relation is Ralph embodying a toolbox because they are both useful for many different things. This representation holds true because a toolbox holds many different items, thus making it useful for many different tasks or projects. One piece of evidence from the story is “That’s why Ralph made a meeting, so we can decide what to do” (Golding 15). This representation is valid because much like a saw Jack can make things worse if used wrong. One way this is shown is in the quote “We’ve killed a pig… you let the fire go out” (Golding 52). Another way that Jack exemplifies a saw is because a saw can be used to fix something, but not by itself. This is shown in the reading when Jack comes up with a way to light the fire, but still relies on Piggy to get it going. In conclusion, Jack represents a saw because both can quickly make matters worse if used wrong and cannot directly fix their problems without the help of someone or something
