It is vital that women be informed on contraceptives, family planning, and health services. Approximately 45 million women give birth without professional assistance. About 150,000 women die while giving birth or in a period of 48 hours after birth. The majority of deaths during pregnancy, child birth, and the period after birth could be prevented by things such as better access to contraception, family planning, and better nutrition.
Violence Against Women and Girls Violence on women often has long-term effects on the victim's health. It is defined by the United Nations as "any act of gender-based violence that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual or psychological harm or suffering to women and girls, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or in private life.” Violence against women can cause the victims to develop PTSD or other mental illnesses that will affect them for a long time.
