Abstract
Within these papers one will find the information regarding the life of Roger W. Sperry. One can find biographical data beginning from his childhood through his college years and finally his professional endeavors. One will find his specific approaches to psychology followed by some of his major contributions to his field and their significance. Later on the opinions of his contemporaries will be discussed followed my current opinions regarding his pioneering work. Towards the end one will see their main experiments and the personal views on Roger Sperry by the author of this paper. The neuropsychologist and neurobiologist Roger Wolcott Sperry was born on August 20, 1913 in Hartford, Connecticut. He was born into an educated middle class family. His parents Francis Bushell and Florence Kraemer Sperry, were both professionals. His father being a banker and his mother an academic administrator. He had a brother named Russell Loomis Sperry who became a chemist. He went on to marry Norma Gay Deupree Sperry on December 28, 1949 and had two children together, Glenn Michael Sperry & Janeth Hope Sperry. During high school Sperry was very much involved in sports, playing baseball, football, and a few other sports. His sportsmanship and academic record allowed him to gain a scholarship to Oberlin College. He continued to play sports in college and first attempted to major in English while supporting himself by working at a cafe on his campus. He later on got interested in Psychology while taking an introductory course taught by a professor Stetson. This class would be the kernel that would spark his interest in the field for the rest of his life. He loved listening to his professors having discussions on the subject, which only furthered his ambition. He graduated in 1935 from Oberlin College with an undergraduate degree in English. He decided to stay after graduating in order to pursue a master in Psychology, which he earned in
