Indie Developers: Self-Publishing or Traditional Publishing?
Indie developers: should they self-publish or stick with traditional publishing? This is the question that needs to be answered. Going forward, this paper will detail which form of publishing was preferred in the past and how it is preferred now. You will be given a brief history on early video games to help facilitate curiosity for the industry. You will even begin to understand the trials and tribulations of indie developers and see how major home console manufactures play a role in development of indie games. Also, you will gain insight on how indie developers impact the video game industry as a whole.

A Brief History in Early Video Games
Believe it or not, video games can be traced all the way back to the late 1940s. An early cathode ray tube- based missile defense system was technically the very first video game program (Princeton para 1). The missile defense system was not adopted into a simple video game till the 1950s. By the late 1950s and the 1960s, more and more computer games were developed. Thus, computer games would increase in sophistication and complexity. Who would have thought this was only the beginning? Eventually computer games began to diversify into the media that we see today.
As time went on video games began to flourish successfully in the United States, Japan, and Europe. Then it happened: the first great video game crash in 1977. During this time, companies were forced to sell their older
