Micky D’s: Are we really loving it?
While McDonald’s U.S. president Jeff Stratton was making a speech to fellow important people in the world of McDonald’s, 10 year employee Nancy Salgado interrupted him shouting at him how she has never gotten a raise and she has two kids and $8.25 is not enough to live off of. Stratton then responds that he has been with the company for 40 years and while Miss Salgado starts to insult what Stratton has done for the company, she is threatened to be arrested, oh and all of this was on a camera phone and within days, this made national news. Here is a URL with the video plus an interview with Salgado defending her actions (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/10/09/mcdonalds-protester_n_4073850.html)
When I first saw this video a few weeks ago, I was appalled. To see the president of a company to just completely shut someone down like that is uncalled for. Oh yeah, I also happen to work for McDonald’s, I am going two years, not so strong. Unlike Salgado, I have gotten raises, but not much. In two years I went from $8.25 to $8.50. I know plenty of places where their starting wage is higher than what I making. Let me just say, being a McDonald’s employee is the most thankless job ever. All my life, teachers and my parents would always tell me to work hard, or I’ll be flipping burgers at McDonald’s the rest of my life. Joke’s on them because there is no flipping, there is a press on the grill, so you just press a button and you’re done. We actually do a lot of work despite what people may think. On top of all that work, we have to deal with annoying customers. If I had a dollar for every time a customer yelled at me, or complained, well, I’d be pretty rich. I know what Salgado is going through, and it was awesome to see someone do that. Not only did she make the president look like a fool in front of the big group he was speaking to, but he looked like a fool across the country. Fun fact
