Introduction When you think orthodontics, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Braces! With all the new technology that we have, being that we are in the twenty first century, braces have transformed significantly. Many years ago braces were worn as a headset, and every night before you went to bed you had to tighten them. That seems extremely uncomfortable, but thankfully we have come a long way. A major development that was created in the world of orthodontics is an invisible pair of braces called Invisalign. Invisalign is just as effective as regular metal braces but with none of the mortification. Zia Chishti used to have to wear a retainer to keep his teeth straight after his braces got removed, but often he forgot to wear it. Due to the lack of wearing his retainer his teeth would shift back into their unusual location. Zia observed this and immediately reinserted his retainer and his teeth would go back to their new adjusted state. He was completely captivated at how plastic was able to modify and change teeth. He then came up the idea to use 3-D computer technology to design transparent, plastic, detachable aligners that allows adults and adolescents to straighten their teeth without wearing metal braces. This innovative man developed Invisalign due to his own terrible experience. He recalls always being told, "You 're a good-looking guy, but your teeth are horrible." ("Zia Chishti."
