Imagine how life would be if our society did not have cars. Today, our society is dependent on cars for our daily routines. From transporting our food, clothes, and technology to just going to the store across the street, cars are a very important part of our society. In the 19th century, only the wealthy and upper middle class had access to automobiles, and they only used cars for fancy transportation and to show off their money. This was due to the extreme prices of cars in the 19th century. With these high prices not many people could afford them, especially not the working class. Henry Ford revolutionized the automotive industry in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. With Ford's devotion to mechanics, he perfected the assembly line, developed cheap cars for the common people, and sparked an era of mass production. Due to this, Ford paid higher and his contributions allowed the common people to have access to cars.…

Jack Kerouac helped develop the Beat Generation, which originated from a group of American writers in 1950’s New York City. The Beat Generation writers, also known as “The Beats,” had very liberal views, creating a culture involving non-materialistic ideals, sexuality and drugs, interests in Eastern religions, and, most-notably, the ecstatic expressionism of living. These ideas from the Beats eventually expanded into the hippie movement during the 60’s, creating a new cultural movement in America. The Beats spread these ideas through their writing, such as William S. Burroughs’ The Naked Lunch and Allen Ginsberg’s Howl. But the most important novel was Jack Kerouac’s On the Road. On the Road was a semi-autobiographical story documenting Jack Kerouac’s adventures across the country with…

During his years at Juilliard, Robin became dear friends with Christopher Reeve, another young actor who would step into stardom and great success. Reeve immediately saw something in Williams that so many others overlooked; he saw an unusual and bizarre side to Williams’s personality and talent. Reeve compared Williams to an untied balloon that had been blown up to its capacity and then instantly released (qtd in Woodgate). However, he acknowledged that Williams was also very powerful and persuasive (qtd in Woodgate). At the young age of 42 in 1995, Reeve suffered from a horseback riding mishap causing him to become a quadriplegic. During Reeve’s long and arduous convalescence, Williams paid for many of Reeve’s medical expenses and provided financial aid to his family, which at the time, they were unable to afford. Williams was able to bring…
