Back in the early 1900s we knew nothing about what was beyond our Earth. In the mid 1950s, one of Earth’s first spacecrafts was launched, the Pioneer (Courtney, 1) .This spacecraft just touched the beginning of space, or the edge of the stratosphere (Courtney, 1).This spacecraft is one of the reasons the Jet Propulsion Laboratory created the Voyager. In the mid 1960s, we figured out that all of the outer planets will align (Bell, Interview). The Jet Propulsion Lab (this is the lab that creates all of the rockets) knew that the planets aligning was good because it only happens about 175 years in 1980 for the year (Bell, Interview). (There are two Voyagers because just in case Voyager 1 did not make it to Uranus and Neptune, Voyager 2 was sent there) Surprisingly, Voyager 2 launched before Voyager 1. The dates they were launched were on September 16, 1977, and on September 30, 1977. The Jet Propulsion Laboratory chose Cape Canaveral, Florida for the launch of the Voyager, because Florida is surrounded by water. If the Voyager did not take off correctly or failed, it would fall in the ocean, not on any land. The Voyager contains a golden record with 116 pictures attached to it. If an alien finds the record, the aliens would take it down from their planet and listen to the sounds of Earth which contains hello is 55 different languages (Angrum,
